Council request for the B2 relocation: Citizens decide on the future!

An attentive ear for citizens' interests is required: In Fürstenfeldbruck, a coalition of the Bavarian Citizens' Association (BBV), the Greens, the SPD and the party "Diepartei" is preparing to initiate a council request to relocate Federal Highway 2 (B2) from the city center. This is reported by the South German newspaper. The aim of this joint initiative is to actively support the city council's decision on this matter and send a strong signal to the city.

A central point of the discussion is the referendum, which will vote on the recommendation of a citizens' initiative that rejects a formal relocation to the truck bypass route. The city council will discuss the admissibility of the citizens' petition and the request for a council petition at their meeting on November 25th. A plebiscite could probably take place on January 18th if both are deemed permissible, with citizens able to vote by postal vote or at the polling station.

Citizens' initiative gathers support

In advance, committed citizens have already collected over 2,230 signatures for the citizens' initiative “Remain B2 - No rezoning of urban streets”. These have now been handed over to the head of the city's legal office, Christian Kieser Mercury reported. The signatures show that the required seven percent of citizens eligible to vote have been reached, which is why a referendum is now essential.

The procedure has a legal security effect, which means that a reallocation of the streets is not possible without this referendum. However, an original vote in the city council, which was scheduled for October 28th, was canceled at short notice. Markus Droth from the citizens' initiative makes it clear that an exchange in the city council was definitely desired. The topic will be taken up again at the next meeting.

Pros and cons of B2 laying

The positions are clear and sometimes strongly polarized. Critics of the B2 relocation, such as Claus-Peter Bahner and Markus Droth from the Free Voters, are in favor of building a new Amper Bridge, while supporters of the council's request argue that this new building would lead heavy traffic into the city center. They also demand that the city be given sovereignty over the B2 in order to enforce a limit of 20 tons as part of the bridge renovation.
Halbauer warns that preventing the downgrading of the B2 route means missing a unique opportunity. The Freising State Building Authority is prepared to accept the city's decision if it is made promptly.

Another issue that should not be neglected is traffic relief, which is only possible with a third ampere crossing. This concern is recognized by both supporters and opponents of the transfer. The city council is faced with major challenges and questions in order to improve the traffic situation in Fürstenfeldbruck.

While discussions and preparations are in full swing, early information and participation of citizens is essential for transparent planning. General information options and participation formats, such as digital discussions, are usually provided by the responsible authority and are intended to involve citizens in decision-making, as shown on stmi.bayern.de can be read.

The coming weeks and months hold some exciting developments that are important for the citizens of Fürstenfeldbruck. It remains to be seen how the city council will decide on November 25th and which path will ultimately be taken.
