On June 26, 2025, Bad Kissingen invites all cycling enthusiasts and nature lovers to an exciting bike tour that not only reveals the beauty of the city, but also its fascinating history. The event is a wonderful opportunity to experience Bad Kissingen as a World Heritage site up close and to learn more about the importance of the various supply structures. The starting point is the spa garden, where the participants in Regentenbau come together at the bike racks.

From there it goes south and past important stations such as the train station and the old slaughterhouse. These sites are not only architecturally interesting, but also of great importance for the spa and its guests. Another highlight of the tour is the visit to sacred rooms, including the impressive Church of the Redeemer, before continuing into the picturesque rose garden and across the salt mine promenade.

A look into history

The tour also offers an exciting discussion about the history of salt in Bad Kissingen and the numerous stays of Otto von Bismarck, who stayed in the city a total of 15 times between 1874 and 1893. During this time he even temporarily moved the Reich Chancellery from Berlin to Bad Kissingen. During a stop at the Lower and Upper Saltworks, participants can experience the cultural significance of salt and learn more about the tradition of walking and new sports.

The history of the first Bismarck monument, which was erected in Bad Kissingen in 1877, is also discussed. This was set up with the permission of King Ludwig II at a strategically chosen location on the Lower Saline so as not to be at the site of the assassination attempt on Bismarck. The monument itself includes a bronze skin that was attached in 1915 and ensures the preservation of the monument. It is open daily, barrier-free and even accessible to four-legged companions.

Tour details

The entire route of the tour covers around 10 kilometers and is largely flat, making it ideal for both organic and e-bikes. The duration of this interesting discovery tour is around 90 minutes. The end point of the tour is the Upper Saline, where participants can optionally visit the museum or stop off at a café. Everyone has the opportunity to join the tour guide for the return journey.

Participation involves a small fee: adults pay 10 euros, children up to 12 years only pay 5 euros. The ticket price also includes entry to the Obere Saline Museum – a real bonus for anyone interested in history.
