Students from Weilheim-Schongau cycle record-breaking 208,293 kilometers!

In the district of Weilheim-Schongau, schools took the pedals on the pedals this year. A total of 1,771 pupils and teachers took part in this great competition and cycled an incredible 208,293 kilometers in 21 days. This enabled the participants to increase the mileage by more than 80,000 kilometers compared to last year, which represents an exciting development. This campaign shows how the interest in cycling has almost doubled in the past five years, such as the Merkur continued.

Again and again it becomes clear that the number of cycling schools also increases in the region. At the award ceremony, which was led by district administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß, not only documents and prizes were presented, but also gave a very special occasion: The primary school Pähl received a special prize for her remarkable commitment for the first time. A total of over 34 tons of CO2 were avoided by the unlocked kilometers, which makes a clear difference for the environment.

award -winning commitment

The competition has a total of 21 schools. Curious about which schools have achieved the best performance? Here are the five best -placed schools:

Platz school Price
1. State Realschule Weilheim 300 euros
2. Gymnasium Penzberg 250 euros
3. Pfaffenwinkel-Realschule Schongau 250 euros
4. middle school Peiting 200 euros
5. Welfen-Gymnasium Schongau 200 euros

But that was not all: even the state junior high school in Peißenberg, the Heinrich Campendonk Realschule Penzberg and the primary school Pähl were rewarded with prices for its high commitment. These awards are not only recognized for the excellent performance, but also serve as motivation to inspire even more students, teachers and parents for cycling in everyday life. Benedikt Wiedemann from the Health Region Plus emphasized how important the movement in everyday life is to promote a healthy life.

school cycling in the Bavarian area

The school cycling, a project that was originally launched in 2015 by the Society for Integrated Transport and Mobility Management and the Climate Alliance, is still very popular today. It was funded by the (then) Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and has now established itself in eight federal states. The coordination and the public relations work for the competition is responsible for the respective federal states, which are also responsible for the award of the best schools. The motto of the competition has changed in recent years to give schools and municipalities fresh impulses again and again.

Finally, it can be said that city cycling not only promotes movement, but also raises awareness of environmentally friendly mobility. The success of the schools in the district are a nice occasion to continue cycling in everyday school life. There is something, and not just for the environment!
