Information evening on heat planning: Memmingen is taking a climate-friendly approach!
The city of Memmingen is taking on the important task of fundamentally transforming the municipal heat supply. On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the city invites you to an information evening in the Maximilian-Kolbe-Haus, Donaustraße 1. From 6:30 p.m. (admission from 6:00 p.m.) interested citizens can find out everything about municipal heat planning. Not only the current and future heat requirements are addressed, but also the possibilities of renewable heat supply and the legal requirements that affect building owners.
How the municipal heating transition is shaping up in Memmingen is supported by numerous experts. The goal is clear: the city wants to develop a strategic roadmap to achieve its climate goals. The focus is on energy-efficient measures to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and increase security of supply. After all, climate protection measures are not only good for the environment, but also for everyone affected by rising heating costs and today's challenges - especially low-income households. Climate Connection emphasizes that municipal heat planning is crucial to significantly reduce energy consumption and at the same time promote the use of climate-friendly energy.
Informative insights and lively discussions
An exciting program awaits visitors during the evening. A relaxed arrival with drinks, a presentation about the city's climate protection activities and the presentation of the interim results of the heat planning should not be missed. In addition, the Allgäu Energy and Environmental Center (eza!) will be available to provide energy advice. Here participants have the opportunity to obtain individual information and network. The event is free, but registration is recommended.
Renewable energies in focus
The challenges Memmingen faces are anything but small. Around 50% of final energy consumption in Germany comes from heat supply. As a result, building heating causes around 20% of CO₂ emissions. The need to convert the heat supply in a climate-friendly manner is strengthened by national legal requirements. Large municipalities must submit a heat plan by June 30, 2026. Smaller cities are also required to complete their plans by June 30, 2028. The city of Memmingen is well positioned in this regard and is supported by B.A.U.M. Consult and Fichtner supported.
Heating networks offer the opportunity to efficiently cover the need for heat. According to Infinitely Much Energy, they are particularly efficient in compact buildings with high heat density. The interaction of modern heating technology, the use of solar and geothermal energy and a comprehensive expansion of sustainable heating networks are further steps towards a greener future. Heat pumps are now considered the most efficient and climate-friendly solution, as they can generate up to 4.5 kWh of heat from 1 kWh of electricity.
In summary, the municipal heating transition is being actively addressed in Memmingen. The information evening not only serves to educate, but also to actively involve citizens. Anyone who is interested in the future of us all should not miss this opportunity.
