Courier drivers escaped flames on the B303: Technical defect to blame!
In late Tuesday afternoon, June 17, 2025, the B303 federal road in the Coburg region was the scene of a dramatic vehicle fire. A courier driver from Ahorn, 54 years old, suddenly noticed smoke at around 5 p.m., who quoll from the engine of his nissan when he drove the route from the A73 towards Kronach. A few moments later, the flames already grew out of the engine compartment, and the skillful driver reacted in the way by turning his vehicle on the edge of the road and bringing himself to safety. The rapid reaction of the fire brigade prevented worse, and the emergency services were able to quickly control the fire, which was probably due to a technical defect, quickly.
In the following, the B303 at Ebersdorf was temporarily closed, and a detour was set up, while the police and the state building authority were on site with several forces. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the smoke and the flames caused considerable inconvenience in traffic.
fire brigade operations on the B303
The B303 currently seems to be a hotspot for fire brigade operations. It was only recently, namely on Saturday morning, there was also a major fire on this important traffic axis when a 24-year-old driver noticed with his small truck that his load of twelve cuboid bales was on fire. The young man had previously picked up the hay bales from a farmer in Abersfeld. Despite his first attempts to solve, which failed, he remained prudently and tipped the burning hay bales onto the road to protect his vehicle.
This use led to the B303 being blocked over three hours. Around 80 emergency services from various fire brigades, including from Kreuzthal and Mechenried, came to extinguish the fire. Special measures such as the addition of a special mesh to the extinguishing water helped tame the flames quickly. It was a logistical effort because a fire water extraction point had to be set up at the village community center in Kreuzthal, and a total of about 20,000 liters of water were needed to extinguish. Despite the high effort, everyone involved remained unharmed, even if a small rear -end collision between a motorcycle and a car passed during use.
foci in view
The recurring fires on the B303 cause the question of security measures. GDV data show that a total of 14,200 comprehensive cars were opened in flames in Germany in 2023, with both combustion engines and electric cars affected. However, the most common causes of fire in the electric cars are technical difficulties, especially with the batteries. The fire brigade is now well prepared for these challenges and uses special deletion methods that require long -lasting cooling of the batteries.
It remains to be seen whether there will be other fires on the B303 in the coming days. One thing is certain: the emergency services are well equipped in order to act quickly and effectively for both vehicle fires and other emergencies. One can only hope that the streets will remain cleaner from fires in the future and the community can come back to rest.
