Felix Henneberger: The ringmaster who leads Kelheim in the major league!

What's going on at ATSV Kelheim? Felix Henneberger has been a mainstay in the club for two decades now and brings a breath of fresh air to the generational change. The now 29-year-old began his journey in wrestling at the age of nine when his family moved to Kelheim. Excited by the direct physical contact and instant feedback that wrestling offers, Henneberger joined the ATSV after previously trying karate and gymnastics. His passion for sport quickly brought him his first successes; So he was able to win “two or three district championships” at different tournaments, like that Central Bavarian reported.

After his first time in the youth sector, Henneberger first competed in the men's team at the age of 16, under coach Ingos Metzger. Although there were difficulties in the past - the ATSV had a temporary break in competition - Henneberger returned after a short interlude at SV Mietraching and quickly became an important part of the team.

Challenges and successes

The team is currently fighting in the top league and has already made it to first place in the table. However, a recent fight against Untergriesbach, where Kelheim suffered a narrow 17:14 defeat, casts a little shadow. Henneberger was dissatisfied with his own performance at this crucial moment. One reason for the team's challenges is the injury-related absences of key players such as Alexander Kunz and Salman Kashiev. Despite these setbacks, coach Helmut Wild praised the team for the strong preliminary round and the remarkable second place in the table.

Henneberger particularly emphasizes the positive development of the second team. They are currently leading the group league, which offers an encouraging perspective for the future. "It's important to introduce the young fighters to the first team. I support them as much as I can in training," he explains motivatedly, showing his commitment to the young talent.

A look into the future

Felix Henneberger is a prime example of identification with the club and tireless commitment to the sport of wrestling. He is not only a fighter, but also a mentor for the new talents and a crucial building block in the team structure. This combination of experience, passion and knowledge of the importance of supporting young athletes seems to be the key to the future success of ATSV Kelheim. Henneberger and his team are also committed to tackling the challenges that come with the misery of injuries and the ranking battle because “there is something there.”
