Dramatic detours: 18 kilometer detour due to construction work in Marktleuthen!
From August 25, 2025, things will be busy in Marktleuthen, because then construction work will start on a new roundabout at the intersection in front of the Marktleuthen elementary school. Motorists should prepare for a comprehensive closure of State Route 2177, which is expected to last until the end of 2025. Road users traveling from Marktleuthen to Röslau or vice versa are particularly affected. A detour of up to 18 kilometers can be expected here, which represents a real challenge for both commuters and residents. The Frankenpost reports that these measures aim to improve road safety and traffic flow.
The upcoming work includes not only the construction of the new roundabout, but also the renewal of the roadway as well as the construction of a crossing aid and a left-turn lane at Habnith. These measures are particularly important to increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists. This also includes a new cycle path connection at the junction to Habnith and improved street lighting. The total costs for this project amount to around 1.75 million euros. The contractor is the company Strabag from Kulmbach, which will take care of the implementation of the sometimes extensive work, as the Bayreuth State Building Authority reports.
Traffic measures and diversions
The construction work on state road 2177 is tentatively scheduled to last until September 15, 2025. After that, road users will have to think again, because further work on the Marktleuthen thoroughfare is planned from spring 2026. These will affect the route between the “Überbrück” roundabout across the market square to the new roundabout in front of the primary school. Traffic diversions lead via state road 2180 in the direction of Thiersheim, from where St 2176 can be taken to Marktleuthen.
All those traveling in the area are asked to pay increased attention in the construction site area and to pay close attention to the signposted detours. Further information and the diversion plan is available directly from the Bayreuth State Building Authority. This means that all road users are well informed and can manage the diversions without stress.
