Starnberg is looking for language mediators: Become a bridge between cultures!

In the district of Starnberg, something is happening in terms of integration: The district office has launched a new training program that focuses on people with a migration background. The aim of this initiative is to support new citizens from abroad in their everyday challenges. Many of them often face linguistic barriers that make access to medical, social or administrative services difficult. A good reason to become active!

Interested persons who speak German fluently and want to work for their compatriots are sought. The training as a language and cultural agent that takes place from the end of October to mid-December includes various important areas. This includes not only the translation when visiting the doctor, but also accompanying consultations and the mediation of intercultural aspects. If you want to act cleverly as a bridge between the cultures, you have the chance here. The dates are distributed over three Saturdays and six evening events, so that interested parties can take part in flexible.

starting shot for training

The first information event will take place on Thursday, July 10th, at 5:30 p.m. in the Starnberg district office. Here interested parties can find out more without obligation and ask questions. After successfully completing the training, the participants receive an allowance and reimbursement of travel expenses - a fair support for their commitment.

As part of a previous training that took place on January 25, 2024, 18 people from various countries of origin, including Ukraine, Iran, Yemen, Greece and the Congo, have already been successfully qualified. These committed immigrants are not professional interpreters, but bring a lot of knowledge and personal experiences that they use in their new roles.

an important step towards integration

The new language and cultural mediators make a major contribution to avoiding misunderstandings by conveying linguistic and intercultural aspects. The district office finances the expense allowances for interpreting, especially when it comes to social service recipients. Past insights show that psychotherapeutic missions are also covered by the Diakonie as part of the project "Therapeutic Offers for Refugees". Inquiries of the new funds to be used can be sent directly to skm@lra-starnberg.de.

The federal government supports such initiatives for the integration of refugees and immigrants through various projects. There is a comprehensive program that includes language placement and support for integration into the labor market and is strong for social participation. The Federal Ministry of Family Affairs places a special focus on people in need of protection, such as women, children and adolescents. This support is an important part of being related and strengthening social cohesion, as well as the sponsorship programs that promote the integration engagement of volunteers.

So if you have a good knack for language mediation and intercultural communication and want to work with heart and commitment to your fellow human beings, you should not miss the chance. Training as a voice and cultural agent is a valuable offer for integration, which not only benefits the participants, but also the entire community in Starnberg. A better understanding-this is a win-win situation for everyone!
