Schweinfurt starts hydrogen complaint: groundbreaking at the harbor!
Schweinfurt, Deutschland - Today, on July 24, 2025, an important step was taken in Schweinfurt in the direction of a more sustainable future: The groundbreaking ceremony for a new hydrogen petrol station in the port took place. This innovative station is operated by Tyczka Hydrogen and has the potential to refuel up to 200 cars a day with green hydrogen.
Schweinfurt was not selected as a location for no reason. The city, known for its industrial strengths and excellent traffic connections via the A7, A70 and A71 motorways, has been a center for innovations for years, not least thanks to the Technical University of Würzburg-Schweinfurt. And the new petrol station is just the first milestone in a comprehensive hydrogen hub, the importance of which should not be underestimated. As Radio Primaton , the petrol station is equipped with the latest technology and has a capacity of up to 1,000 kg of hydrogen per day. Both vehicles with 350 and 700 bar can be refueled.
politics and business in harmony
The celebrations were accompanied by prominent guests from politics, business and society. Among them were Tobias Gotthardt, the State Secretary of the Bavarian State Ministry of Economics, as well as Sebastian Remelé, the mayor of Schweinfurt, and Florian Töpper, the district administrator. In his speech, State Secretary Gotthardt emphasized the important role of the hydrogen hub for a sustainable value chain in the region, while Mayor Remelé emphasized the rich infrastructure that is invaluable for resident companies.
Another important point, the CEO Dr. Frank Götzelmann underlined is that the petrol station is considered a future -oriented project. The total investment effort for the hydrogen infrastructure in Schweinfurt amounts to over 20 million euros, of which around 2 million euros are funded by the Bavarian State Ministry. This clearly shows that investments are made in the green future and that innovative traffic solutions are on the rise.
from theory to practice
With the planned electrolysis plant, which is to achieve an output of 5 MW and is expected to be put into operation at the end of 2026, the region becomes an important hydrogen hub in Germany. At the beginning, the hydrogen is delivered via trailer, but soon the electrolysis system will take over this task itself. This not only sounds exciting, but also shows that Tyczka Hydrogen has a good knack for implementing sustainable technologies. This could even lead to a new center for commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses and garbage collection vehicles in the coming years.
Put simply, there is something in Schweinfurt! The hydrogen project will not only economically strengthen the city itself, but also the entire region and thus make an important contribution to the energy transition. As Tyczka a sustainable future is built here-Stein für Stein!
