Sonthofen's mayor Christian Wilhelm wants to become the new district administrator!
The Free Voters in the Oberallgäu district have nominated their candidate for the 2026 district election: Christian Wilhelm, the current mayor of Sonthofen, will apply for the office of district administrator. This was done by Mercury reported. The official nomination will take place next week and his candidacy is expected to be supported by many supporters, including Dr. Philipp Prestel, the parliamentary group leader of the Free Voters, is celebrated. Wilhelm brings many years of local political experience and would like to run as an independent candidate in order to promote cross-party cooperation.
Christian Wilhelm, who is 51 years old, married and has two children, has held the office of First Mayor in Sonthofen since 2014. In addition to his political role, he is active in various committees, including as chairman of the supervisory board of Allgäuer Kraftwerke GmbH and deputy chairman of the supervisory board of the Social-Economic Works of the Oberallgäu district. He wants to incorporate these experiences into his campaign.
Core themes of the candidacy
Wilhelm has already outlined some key issues for his candidacy. He would like to increase the proximity of administration to the citizens, promote the expansion of mobility in rural areas and create family-friendly living conditions. He also cares about strengthening small and medium-sized businesses and valuing volunteer work. All of this should be achievable through transparent and solution-oriented politics.
The area of construction policy is particularly important to him. Wilhelm calls for reforms to create simpler and more climate-friendly building law. In doing so, he not only wants to promote sustainable construction, but also make it easier to build housing in the region. This position underlines his approach to putting citizens' concerns at the center and seeking pragmatic solutions.
Competition in the district election
With his agreement, Wilhelm stands out from his competitors, including the Greens, who have already nominated Christina Mader as a candidate. The CSU also still faces the challenge of naming its own candidate. The favorite in the conversation is Thomas Eigstler, the mayor of Wiggensbach. A meeting of the CSU district board is imminent to provide clarity.
