Free bus training for seniors: Safe travel in the district!

What is on offer here in Landsberg am Lech? An exciting opportunity for seniors to experience free mobility training on the bus! For the first time, the Landsberg am Lech district is organizing such an event as part of the European Mobility Week 2025. The training will take place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 2:15 p.m. at the side entrance of the district office's vehicle registration office.

The offer is particularly aimed at older people and people with walking aids such as walkers or wheelchairs. It aims to enable participants to use local public transport independently and safely. Under the guidance of an experienced exercise trainer and an experienced bus driver, the participants will be trained in around two hours on how to get on and off safely and in a way that is gentle on their joints and how to behave stably during the journey.

Tips for registering and content of the training

The number of participants is limited, so prior registration is essential. Those interested can contact by email oepnv@LRA-LL.bayern.de or register by phone on 08191 129 1659. If demand is high, an additional appointment will be offered in the morning.

Mobility training includes important aspects such as:

  • Sicheres Ein- und Aussteigen
  • Manövrieren von Rollatoren und Rollstühlen
  • Stabil sitzen und stehen während der Fahrt

With the support of Schneider Reisen GmbH, which provides a training bus, it is ensured that all participants receive a practical insight into the challenges of using public transport.

A look outside the box

If you look outside the box, you can see that similar programs are also being successfully implemented in other regions, such as the Rhein-Neckar Transport Association (VRN). The motto there is “Stay mobile with buses and trains” and pursues a similar goal: seniors and people with limited mobility should learn how to use public transport independently. Here, too, uncertainty when using buses and trains is reduced.

Different training content, such as planning independent journeys and practical exercises on waiting safely at stops, provide a good basis. Groups of 10 to 15 people ensure that everyone receives sufficient individual attention.

These valuable training offers not only promote the mobility of the older generation, but also strengthen social participation. So if you know someone who could benefit from this training, don't hesitate to share the information! This is a real opportunity to stay mobile and independent!
