Speeder stopped at 220 km/h on B289 near Kulmbach - consequences follow!
A dangerous speeder was stopped by the police on the night of June 15, 2025 on the B289 in the direction of Untersteinach, Kulmbach. The 24-year-old driver from Neuenmarkt clocked an incredible 220 kilometers per hour in his Toyota Yaris, which was well above the permitted limit. The police were quickly on the scene and gave chase after the driver failed to heed the stop signals. Now the young man has to answer not only for speeding, but also for a banned motor vehicle race. The officials have initiated corresponding criminal proceedings. Even if the chase did not have a positive ending, the police protect citizens from such dangerous drivers.
The Kulmbach police play a central role in combating speeding. This recently revealed a large number of fast drivers during a speed check on the northern bypass. Seven drivers were driving fast and only one was able to get away with a fine. This shows how important the controls are and that the issue of speed is still very important in Bavaria.
A look at the speeding statistics
In 2023, around 2.5 million speeding violations were registered across Germany. While Brandenburg tops the list of federal states with the most speeding violations, Bavaria takes 14th place out of 16 federal states. There were 435 cases of speeding of more than 70 km/h here last year, putting Bavaria only behind Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia, which have even higher numbers. One more reason for the police to continue to take consistent action against speeders.
It is striking that over 45% of the total points in the driving fitness register in Bavaria can be attributed to speeders. On average, 39.5 points were achieved per 1,000 drivers. The amount of fines for speeding should not be ignored. Drivers who drive too fast outside of built-up areas can expect fines of up to 738.50 euros and driving bans. In urban areas the fine can be even higher.
In summary, the incident on the B289 is a stark reminder that driving behavior can endanger not only your own life, but also the lives of others. It remains to be hoped that the consistent work of the police in Kulmbach and beyond will help deter people from such risky driving.
