Laying the foundation: new support for blind people started in Kitzingen!

Kitzingen, Deutschland - In Kitzingen, the foundation stone for a new support center of the Würzburg Blind Institute has taken place. This significant step in development offers space for a total of 24 people and will be built at the location next to the school center on the Mühlberg. The initiators are satisfied with a clear concept that includes both common areas and individual retreat. "We are on the right track," it said at the ceremony.

The new facility is built in the form of a "slim" building structure in order to let a lot of daylight into the rooms. The comb -shaped floor plan also realizes barrier -free access to the work areas and functional units, which is of great importance for future residents. The completion of the building is planned for autumn 2027, and after commissioning, this will be the second residential and funding facility of the Würzburg Blind Institute in Kitzingen. The first facility was only opened in Armin-Knab-Straße in June 2024, which shows how quickly the commitment for people with disabilities progresses.

Special features of the

sponsorship

In this new facility there are four residential groups with six places each. The groups have 2 to 4 employees, so that individual support is guaranteed. Each room is designed as a single room with direct access to its own bathroom. The concept also provides for "tandem groups" that network through common rooms and functional areas.

  • common areas and retreat
  • feel -good bath for relaxation
  • courtyards for natural experience and employment opportunities

In addition, the funding facility will have four group areas for eight clients, with spatial differentiation and rest areas as well as sanitary facilities that are suitable for wheelchairs. Thanks to the planning, the new facility will not only be a home, but also a place of support and community work, because there will also be a day care center with 32 seats in four working and work groups.

support and community

The Free State of Bavaria, which provides almost 11 million euros, is financed by the Free State of Bavaria, as well as by the district of Lower Franconia, which again contributes almost 2 million euros. This commitment clearly shows that in the region you value inclusion and wants to offer people with disabilities a good home.

In addition, a new resident representative in the Dr. Hans-Neugauer-Haus in Kitzingen was elected on April 4, 2025. From now on, the residents also represent their interests and ensure a voice in the community. Renata Plobner was unanimously elected as the first chairman, Philipp Geigle and Helgard Hey take over the deputy, while Anke Fähnrich took over the office of secretary.

Overall, there is a lot of reason for joy and hope for the future residents of the new funding that will live in a loving and supportive environment. Those responsible are confident that these measures and facilities will bring significant improvements for the quality of life of people with disabilities in Kitzingen.
