Eichstätt strikes the strings: Folk Music Day with 1,500 musicians is approaching!

Things are happening in Eichstätt! The eighth Volksmusiktag Mittedrin will take place next weekend, from July 18th to 20th, 2025, and numerous highlights await visitors. Around 1,500 musicians from more than 110 groups will fill the city with their sounds. A festival that celebrates traditional Bavarian music and brings young and old together.

The music groups will present their talents across four large stages – Market Square, Cathedral Square, Pater-Philipp-Jeningen-Platz and the Fischerzelt on the seminar meadow. But there's not just something going on on the big stages! You can also look forward to numerous performances in the cozy restaurants in Eichstätter city center and the hospital town. Serenades in the garden of the Episcopal Pastoral Office and at Kapellbuck round off the program.

Experience cultural diversity

A highlight is the song hike along the Neuer Weg, which includes several folk music stations. On July 19th, the Mittendrin market will take place in the former St. John's Church, where you can find handmade products and delicacies. A special exhibition on the history of the D’Altmühler Eichstätt traditional costume association will also warmly welcome visitors to the Old City Theater.

Readings with well-known authors such as Richard Auer and Rainer Tredt are also on the program. These literary contributions are particularly exciting for those interested in culture among the visitors, while the little ones get their money's worth in the children's program in the foyer of the Old City Theater with Hans-Peter Schneider, who reads from Seppi's diary.

A celebration for the whole family

The extensive children's and youth program includes dancing fun with the traditional costume club, puppet theater and Bavarian fairy tales, which are told on Sundays. The workshops start on Saturday with “The Sad Flute” and singing with children and families will create a happy atmosphere. On Sunday, little visitors can look forward to the play “Peg Leg and Bobblehead”!

Of course, no wish remains unfulfilled for those who love dancing. On July 19th, the Tanngrindler musicians will be serving up a lot on the cathedral square. In addition, visitors can experience the tower blowing at 12 p.m. at the opening on the BR stage - a nice start when the sounds from the town hall towers fill the city.

Practical information for visitors

The program booklet is available in the Eichstätt tourist information office, in the foyer of the town hall as well as in the nature park center and in many Eichstätt shops and restaurants.
