Ebersberg is committed to climate protection: Aktion Zukunft-Plus promotes regional projects and compensation for CO₂ emissions.

Climate protection in Ebersberg: Record sum for sustainable projects!
A major rethinking of climate protection is evident in the Ebersberg district. The South Germans reports on the Zukunft-Plus campaign, which was launched by the districts of Munich and Ebersberg and the Ebersberg-Munich energy agency. This initiative brought in an impressive 237,000 euros in donations in 2024, which is double the previous year.
But what does the money go to? These donations are specifically invested in climate protection projects, including the rewetting of moors and the conversion of forests with climate-resistant tree species. Particularly pleasing: 45 percent of the funds went to regional projects. The most impressive projects include the restoration of ten hectares of wetlands in the Brucker Moos as well as the forest conversion in Forstenrieder Park and the Ebersberger Forest.
CO₂ reduction goes hand in hand with commitment
The Ebersberg district has not only taken care of the regional biotopes, but also offset its own greenhouse gas emissions. For the first time, the emissions from the district office and ten other school buildings were offset. 506 tons of CO₂ were offset with certificates worth 10,000 euros. This shows how serious the region is about climate protection.
A look at the donors shows that 74 percent of the money comes from companies in the participating districts. Part of the donations also go towards climate education in schools. The Future Plus campaign is not only a way to compensate, but also promotes environmental education for the next generation.
Global responsibility and future projects
The initiative not only stays local, but also looks beyond the horizon. 45 percent of the donations are invested in projects in the global south that deal with the expansion of renewable energies, forest protection and drinking water supply. The campaign wants to grow further from 2025 with new photovoltaic projects and funding in the area of regenerative agriculture. The interest of other districts and cities has also been aroused; the city of Augsburg, among others, has already signaled its interest.
Another highlight will be the planting campaign in the Ebersberger Forest on November 8th. Here, interested citizens have the opportunity to actively help with reforestation. Registration is possible until October 15th by email to info@aktion-zukunft-plus.de. The commitment is also supported by the findings of the Federal Environment Agency which emphasizes that climate change can only be effectively combated by reducing and compensating for CO₂ emissions. In Germany, the average CO₂ footprint is over 11 tons per year, which is why every initiative can make a valuable contribution.
The issue of climate protection affects us all. It is up to each of us to take responsibility and make a contribution, be it through participation in campaigns or conscious actions in everyday life. The Zukunft-Plus campaign shows that the Ebersberg district is setting a good example.
