Nine children discover the secrets of the New Town Hall!
What an exciting experience for the little explorers from Deggendorf! On August 8th and 13th, 2025, nine children took part in a tour of the New Town Hall. This event was a highlight of the “4You” summer holiday program, which aims to give children an insight into city government. The program is very popular and offers children the opportunity to experience what goes on in their community up close.
The children had the opportunity to explore different areas of city government. A visit to the lost property office was on the agenda, as was a look into the wedding room and the mayor's office. The large meeting room was particularly impressive, where the little guests not only watched but were also allowed to take a seat at the tables. A real sense of power and responsibility, they might have thought!
Chain of office close up
An important part of the leadership was the mayor's chain of office. The children were allowed to look at the necklace up close and discussed whether it might be made of gold. A little joke between the children that only increased the amazement and laughter. It is remarkable how such excursions can not only impart knowledge, but also arouse enthusiasm for the municipal structures.
The event was filled with questions, amazement and a whole lot of fun. Such actions are part of a larger initiative that often refers to education and culture. Municipal institutions such as libraries, music schools and art schools attach great importance to the cultural education of children and young people. It becomes clear that access to these offers can depend heavily on social background. This puts the onus on cities and politicians to create equal opportunities for everyone. This is also emphasized in a position paper by the German Association of Cities, which denounces the need for better coordination of such programs.
Nowadays it is of central importance to give children and young people access to cultural and educational offerings. That's why events like these in the New Town Hall are more than just tours; They are building blocks for a comprehensive understanding of education that is anchored in the current educational plans of daycare centers and schools.
A look into the city administration not only shows how it works, but also the responsibility of today for the generation of tomorrow. Let's stay tuned to see what other exciting projects and programs Deggendorf has in store for its youngest citizens!

Another interesting development in the region is the introduction of a chain of office for the mayor of Neubrandenburg, which was recently presented as part of a city birthday. This chain of office also symbolizes the city's cultural identity and shows how important such traditions are to the sense of community. Read more about this here: strelitzius.com.
