Bayreuth: New Center for Encounter - a ray of hope for the district of Burg!

In Bayreuth a lot is happening: On Monday, July 7th, the city council's social committee will meet at 4 p.m. in the large meeting room of the new town hall. The agenda includes important points that affect the city and its citizens. Particular attention is paid to an application by the SPD city council group for the development of guidelines for the integration policy of the city of Bayreuth. This could be a significant step to improve integration in the city, as reports bayreuth.de.

Another central point is Dr. Andreas Zippel (SPD), Christian Wedlich (CSU), Dr. Klaus Wührl-Struller (Greens) and Frank Hofmann (BG), who targets the creation of a meeting place in the Castle district. This initiative aims to use the former Telekom building in Wilhelm-Pitz-Straße as the central meeting point for the residents. The city administration should now check the feasibility of these plans so that the city council can soon make a decision.

a place for everyone

The idea for the meeting place was no accident. It emerged from talks at the Burg-Kerwa on September 14, 2024, which were organized by the Association * Wundersams Andv. *. During these talks, the social challenges in the district were outlined that brought together representatives of the city, churches and social providers. So it quickly became clear that a central meeting point for young people, seniors and social projects is of great importance.

The former Telekom building offers ideal conditions, as the applicants emphasize in their proposal. With a large courtyard and an unused cafeteria, the location could be used in a variety of ways. In addition, a barrier -free access is sought to ensure traffic safety with crosswalks and a better connection to bus stops. After all, the district of Burg has suffered from a poor reputation and social problems in the past, sometimes due to the proximity to a correctional facility.

future prospects

It looks like the planned meeting place could be a long -lasting solution to promote social interaction and increase the quality of life in the neighborhood. An integrated urban development concept (ISEK) from 2009 had already emphasized the need for a neighborhood center in Burg. It is all the more pleased that steps to implement are now initiated.

As part of the investment package "Social Integration in the Quartier", a funding program of the Federal Ministry of Building, such projects are particularly supported. The program is dedicated to creating places for education, encounter and integration. Between 2017 and 2020, 200 million euros were made available annually to maintain and expand social infrastructures in the living environment. In this context, the new meeting place in Bayreuth could benefit from the over 750 measures in around 570 municipalities, as Staedtebaufoerung.info.

The coming months will be crucial for the further development of the Burg district. It remains to be seen how the city council positions itself on the proposed projects and whether the new meeting place becomes a reality. However, it is clear that there is great potential that could strengthen the community and is urgently needed.

The agenda and further information can be seen in the Bayreuth City Infoportal. It remains exciting which soft the city will set for the future to promote both social cohesion and quality of life.
