The U23s of 1. FC Nürnberg (FCN) and FC Augsburg played an exciting football game last weekend. The FCN was able to celebrate a dramatic last-minute victory, which secured their fourth win in their fourth competitive game. Captain Fabian Menig celebrated his 100th appearance in the club dress that day and was duly honored before kick-off. A very special moment for him!
Both teams set a good pace right from the start. However, dangerous shots on goal initially remained in short supply. The first shot came from Tobias Heß, whose shot was easily parried by the visiting goalkeeper after a lay-down by Tino Kusanovic. FC Augsburg could have taken the lead in the 15th minute, but Dardari shot wide. In the 28th minute it was Dardari who gave the visitors a 1-0 lead after a cross.
The fight for balance
The FCN U23s were undeterred and tried to make up for the deficit as quickly as possible. Lisewski prevented a bigger deficit in the 38th minute with a strong reflex. Shortly before half-time, Scobel scored the 1-1 equalizer with a header in the 45th minute and caused celebrations in the Nuremberg ranks.
The team started the second half with renewed vigor and dominated the game. Heß hit the crossbar in the 46th minute and gave a strong signal. Kusanovic also had chances, but failed from close range. Scobel put a header over the goal, and the team was also unsuccessful in the 76th minute when shots from Heß and Scobel were blocked. Coach Andreas Wolf put everything on one card and brought four fresh offensive players into the game: Rau, Skowronek, Wiezorrek and Krupa.
A dramatic finale
The tension increased until injury time. The FCN didn't give up and were rewarded in the 93rd minute: Krupa scored the winning goal with a header to make it 2-1. The FCN U23s achieved their fourth win in their fourth competitive game - a great result that thrilled the fans!
