Aytac Sulu starts in Aschaffenburg: rescue mission for Viktoria!

SV Viktoria Aschaffenburg is facing an exciting new beginning in the Bavarian Regional League. After several close relegation battles in the last two seasons, in which the club managed to escape to safety several times, the decision was made to take a new approach. The clear goal for the coming season is to stay in the league, and to achieve this the club has now hired Aytac Sulu as the new head coach. The 39-year-old Sulu, who worked in the youth team at TSG Hoffenheim, not only brings a wealth of experience from his playing days with 430 competitive games played, but also the UEFA A license. He was also instrumental in SV Darmstadt 98's promotion to the Bundesliga and has always distinguished himself in the past with a strong mentality and willingness to fight, as he himself emphasizes. According to kicker.de, he is planning a major shakeup in the squad.

The signs point to change: 13 players have left the club, including important regulars. At the same time, the club has signed five new players to bring a breath of fresh air into the team. The new additions include Lian Akkus Rodriguez (21) from the central midfield of FC Gießen, Adrian Asani (25) from the defensive midfield of RW Koblenz as well as the central defenders Benjamin Franz (22) from TuS Mechtersheim and Maximilian Kohlert (20) from Alemannia Haibach. Emirhan Delikaya, a talented right-back from Kickers Offenbach's U19 team, will also strengthen the team. This is an attempt to optimize the average age of the squad to just over 23 years, although experienced players such as Max Grün, Benjamin Baier and Roberto Desch should act as pillars.

A strong leadership team

Not only Sulu, but also Sandro Sirigu takes on a key role in the club. Sirigu, 36 years old and also with a lot of playing experience, will take over the sporting management and, as assistant coach of the U19 team at SV Darmstadt 98, brings valuable input. Both Sulu and Sirigu have contracts that initially run for one year with an option to continue, which speaks for the club's sustainable development. BFV reports that Sirigu runs his football school and is keen to promote young talent from the region.

With Niklas Borger, who is considered a veteran in the squad due to his 108 regional league games, there is also a solid basis for the young talents. Sulu is cautiously optimistic that the team can stay in class. However, it will be crucial to strengthen the central striker position as Michael Gorbunov has been seriously injured and is expected to miss out. As the club stated in an interview with [kicker.de](https://www.kicker.de/raus-aus-der- comfortzone-sulu-soll-aschaffenburg-stabilizen-1131285/artikel), they are aware of the need for further reinforcements and want to stick with it in order to put together a powerful team.
