Drama on the A93: Man attacks the police and flees into the forest!

In a shocking incident in Bavaria, a 47-year-old man harassed drivers on the A93 and injured a police officer in the process. The incident occurred on July 12, 2025 in the Wunsiedel district when the man tried to force vehicles to stop. This dangerous condition led to the police being quickly alerted, who took immediate action to defuse the situation. The man showed extremely aggressive behavior during the attack and injured an officer in the face, which further escalated the situation. After the attack, the perpetrator fled into a nearby forest and initiated an extensive manhunt, in which a police helicopter was also used. As a result, traffic on the A93 was severely affected, trains ran “on sight” and the motorway had to be closed in both directions.

On the morning of July 13th, concerned drivers reported that a shirtless man was seen on the hard shoulder of the A93. A little later, the police were able to find and arrest the 47-year-old they were looking for. He was hypothermic and had a bleeding wound on his forearm, which was probably caused by his escape over a guardrail. After the arrest, the man was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. The investigations against him are ongoing intensively; allegations of assault on police officers and bodily harm are being examined, among other things. In this context, the police strongly warn against picking up hitchhikers, as the background to his behavior remains unclear.

Overarching security situation and violence against police officers

This incident adds to worrying statistics. According to the BKA, the number of violent acts against police officers and rescue workers has reached an all-time high. In 2023 there was an increase of 9.9% to a total of 105,708 police officers affected. Of particular concern is that 84.5% of cases of violence involve acts of resistance and physical attacks, which significantly increases the pressure on the security forces. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has already expressed concern about this development and changes to the law are being planned to equip police officers with modern technology, such as Tasers, and to tighten criminal law. Representatives of the German Police Union also criticize politicians for inadequate responses to the increasing violence and are calling for the age of criminal responsibility to be lowered.

The incident on the A93 is not just an isolated incident, but illustrates the general increase in acts of violence against emergency services in Germany. As the data shows, the security authorities are repeatedly confronted with aggressive behavior from people who, in crisis situations, endanger not only the emergency services but also uninvolved road users.
