Recognizing dementia: Action morning in Café Mitte Weiden on September 26th!
What's new in Weiden? This Friday, September 26th, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a very special morning of action will take place in Café Mitte, which will deal with the important topic of dementia and its early warning signs. The event, which will take place in the community center at Café Mitte, Am Stockerhutpark 1, 92637 Weiden i.d.OPf. takes place, is organized by the health region PLUS Nordoberpfalz in collaboration with SEGA e. V., the AOK and the senior citizens' representatives of the cities of Weiden and Neustadt. A comprehensive range of information is presented to all those affected and their relatives in a friendly and stimulating atmosphere.
The Bavarian Dementia Week, which will be celebrated from September 19th to 28th, 2025, will once again offer numerous activities this year to raise awareness of the challenges and symptoms of dementia. In addition to the information stands and advice provided as part of the morning campaign, visitors can also take part in a dementia parkour, which vividly simulates the impairments of dementia and is intended to promote a better understanding of the disease. This is an excellent opportunity to give relatives and interested parties the opportunity to delve deeper into the topic.
Act early in Bavaria
In addition to the events in Weiden, citizens can learn about the research project digiDEM Bavaria Take advantage of free memory tests. These tests are available to everyone aged 65 and over and are offered at 56 locations throughout Bavaria. They are particularly intended for people who notice signs of memory impairment or who have received advice from loved ones. The tests take between 15 and 20 minutes and offer the opportunity for early diagnosis.
Since summer 2022, over 4,400 participants have taken part in 157 test days. A current evaluation shows that 27% of test results require clarification. This means that there is a need for action to offer patients competent support services. Close collaboration with 278 research partners facilitates access to these tests and ensures that citizens in various cities and communities, such as Holzkirchen, Dingolfing, Nuremberg and Regensburg, are fully informed.
An important network for the future
The Bavarian State Ministry for Health, Care and Prevention has launched the initiative for early diagnosis in order to counteract the increasing number of dementia cases. A study shows that dementia screening has no negative impact on participants' quality of life, which further increases the acceptance of such tests. The organizers of the Bavarian Dementia Week and the digiDEM Bavaria team not only do their best to raise awareness, but also help to further expand the network to support those affected.
All in all, the Bavarian Dementia Week offers a valuable platform to educate people about dementia and to offer help and support to those affected and their relatives. If you would like to take advantage of the offers, you should take advantage of the opportunity and come to Café Mitte on Friday. A good hand at conveying information is guaranteed here!
