The athletics scene in Germany is extremely active these days. The focus is particularly on Darja Michel, the talented athlete of TuS Traunreut. She showed impressive achievements at the championship events in Duisburg and Ingolstadt. In Duisburg she competed in the German university title fights in the 1500 m race of the women and took 8th place with a time of 4: 37.97 minutes. Verena Meisl from the TU Dortmund secured the title with 4: 23.03 minutes. The second was followed by Charlotte Augenstein from Wake Forest University (USA), which crossed the finish line after 4: 25.36 minutes.
But that's not all: Michel ran over the 3000 meter obstacle at the Bavarian obstacle runs in Ingolstadt and was able to secure a solid 5th place with a time of 11: 10.70 minutes. The Bavarian Championship went to Susanne Brünnig from LG Telis Finanz Regensburg with outstanding 10: 38.41 minutes. Lisa Schuster from Lac Quelle Fürth became second and Sophie-Marie Kohlhase from LG Stadtwerke Munich secured third place. It is worth noting that Darja Michel's best time in this discipline - 10: 56.01 minutes - was achieved at the international meeting in Brussels, where she took 38th place under 16 nations.
German university championships in Paderborn
The pole vault of women was particularly outstanding, where Anjuli Knasche with 4.55 meters survived the Olympic standard. In individual competitions, Steven Müller triumphed over 100 meters (10.63 seconds) and 200 meters (21.34 seconds), while Jonas Hanßen won the 400 meter hurdles in 51.49 seconds. Local athletes from the University of Paderborn also showed their talent, such as Nils Kappeller, who reached the vice title in the high jump with 2.09 meters.

With fascinating role models such as Usain Bolt and Malaika Mihambo, who also cause a stir internationally, the sport shows that it is not just about medals and records, but also about community and the joy of the competition. The next big events are already around the corner: The German championships will take place in Dresden from July 31 to August 3, 2025 and will surely captivate many athletes and spectators.
