Lecture on financial relief: care costs and family responsibilities!

The upcoming lecture “Care and Home Costs – Are Children Liable for Their Parents?” on November 12, 2025, will be held by lawyer Thilo Schmidt at the Volksbank Raiffeisenbank in Weiden. Anyone who is interested in the explosive topics of care costs and the associated legal regulations should not miss this event. The lecture starts at 6:30 p.m. and promises to provide interesting insights, especially for private individuals and companies in the region. The event is offered as part of the GEPVONA project, which deals with health, care, pension provision and estate planning.

Thilo Schmidt, an experienced family law specialist, provides comprehensive information on the obligations of relatives, the increasing personal contributions in care and the often inadequate benefits of long-term care insurance. It also explains how social welfare providers can intervene in the financing of care costs and what conditions must be met for the costs to be covered.

Nursing care insurance and social assistance: insight into the financial aspects

A key insight from the presentation will be that statutory nursing care insurance often does not cover all costs. This is also confirmed by the consumer advice center, which points out that those in need of care who are not entitled to care insurance benefits or whose benefits are inadequate can apply for social assistance. What is crucial is that the care services are strictly regulated in accordance with Social Code 11 (SGB XI) and are only granted to those people whose level of care has been determined by the medical service.

Another important point that Schmidt will address is the out-of-pocket costs that must be borne by those in need of care. The social welfare office only makes financial concessions if the income and assets of the person concerned or their partner are not sufficient to cover the costs of care. In this regard, precise knowledge of the income limits is crucial. For example, the basic amount for the income limit from January 2024 is 1,126 euros and a family allowance for partners who do not live separately is 394 euros.

Early planning saves costs

To minimize financial risks and avoid conflicts, Schmidt recommends early planning regarding care costs. A legally secure design can not only improve claims against payers, but also ensure tax relief and protective assets for those affected. An example of this are donations or transfers of assets, which must be taken into account when calculating the assets to be taken into account.

Anyone interested is invited to register at Volksbank by phone on 0961/840 or online. The lecture is an excellent opportunity to clarify questions and better understand your own options for caring for older relatives. Given the rising cost of care these days, such an event is more than valuable.
