Starnberg: Drunk men fight in front of the bar – police save!
There was a lot of activity in the tranquil town of Starnberg late on Saturday evening. Loud South German newspaper Two men fought in front of a restaurant in the city center. The situation escalated to such an extent that a police patrol that happened to be patrolling nearby had to intervene. At first there was no serious harm; both men were able to give each other a lot of trouble, but fortunately they remained largely uninjured.
The police were originally called to a traffic accident when officers heard loud screams coming from the restaurant around 9:55 p.m. The 44-year-old man, who was lying on the ground, told the officers that his 34-year-old opponent had punched him in the face several times. There were some scratches on the older man's body, his face was red and he also complained of back pain. Even his glasses had not survived the violent exchange of blows unscathed.
Unusual causes of disputes
The younger of the two men, the 34-year-old, however, had a different view of things. According to his statement, the argument started with the 44-year-old pulling out several clumps of his hair - the officers actually found such clumps of hair on the floor. According to the police report, both brawlers were “clearly intoxicated” and refused a medical examination after the incident. Both now face charges of assault.
But that wasn't the only incident that kept the police busy that evening. As the Bavarian police reported that a 28-year-old Bosnian man was the victim of a physical attack at Starnberg See train station on Saturday around 7:50 p.m. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds in the back, which fortunately were not life-threatening. The perpetrators fled on foot after the attack and the police did everything in their power to locate them. A police helicopter was even used to support the search. An apartment was searched and several people were found, whose possible involvement is being investigated. The investigation suggests that the motive is personal and that the victims and suspects were already known.
Personal Assault: A Growing Problem?
These incidents provoke an important social discourse. Personal injury is a topic that has come into focus again and again in recent years. Data from the Federal Criminal Police Office show that the number of cases of bodily harm recorded by the police in Germany is increasing continuously from 2014 to 2024, even if the article on Statista could not provide any specific numbers or trends. There is obviously a need for action, both in education and prevention.
In light of these incidents, it becomes clear that even in a quiet city like Starnberg, tempers can quickly become heated. Whether it is about the famous “fly in the ointment” or personal conflicts, it remains to be hoped that such disputes can be resolved more peacefully in the future.
