BSW is planning a bold entry: local elections in 2026 in Kaufbeuren!

The Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) has big plans for the 2026 local elections in Kaufbeuren and Ostallgäu. The strategies and next steps were explained at a meeting in Buchloer Café Morizz on Whit Saturday. Kaufbeuren city councilor Paul Meichelböck emphasized the need to grow structurally in the Allgäu in order to be successful in the upcoming elections. The atmosphere was one of strong community spirit and participants were optimistic about the election prospects.

Regular get-togethers are currently taking place in Kaufbeuren and Ostallgäu with the aim of gaining supporters for the common cause. Bernd Gramlich, the Buchlo city councilor and former SPD member, was confident that the BSW can take part in the city council elections in Kaufbeuren. It is expected that the necessary number of support signatures can be achieved and it is considered realistic to achieve two city council mandates.

Challenges in Ostallgäu

However, the situation is more difficult in Ostallgäu. The staffing level here is thinner, which makes it more difficult to apply for candidates. Nevertheless, there is cautious optimism for possible candidacies in Buchloe or Eggenthal. In order to continue to reach and motivate voters, the BSW plans to continue the regulars' table series in Buchloe, Kaufbeuren and Marktoberdorf. The next get-together will take place on July 6th in Kaufbeuren.

A further step in the activity of the BSW came from the two former members of the Left, Xaver Merk and Elmar Heim, who were confirmed as delegates at the first party conference of the BSW in Berlin! Her ambition is to advance the BSW in the Günzburg district and the Neu-Ulm district. A Bavarian regional association of the BSW is to be founded by autumn/winter 2024 in order to strengthen the party's activities and presence in Bavaria Augsburger Allgemeine reported.

A look at the elections

The 2026 local elections will be crucial, not only for the candidates, but also for the citizens. In these elections, members of the municipal and city councils, district councils as well as mayors and district administrators are elected. As a rule, the electoral period is six years, although the terms of office of mayors and district administrators can also extend beyond the term of office of the local council. The municipalities are responsible for conducting the elections themselves, with supervision carried out by the respective supervisory authorities, as the statistics from the Bavarian State Office for Statistics show.

The BSW is well advised to address its strategic considerations now in order to send a strong signal in the local elections in Kaufbeuren and Ostallgäu next year.
