Train chaos between Munich and Holzkirchen: closure until the end of July!
From today, June 29, 2025, train traffic between Holzkirchen and Munich Central Station will be at a standstill due to several switch disruptions. This not only affects the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB), but also the Munich S-Bahn network. The BRB trains - i.e. the RB 55, 56, 57 and 58 - end in Holzkirchen and do not take passengers to the Alpine regions such as Bayrisch Zell, Tegernsee and Lenggries as usual. Instead, passengers have to switch to buses and large-capacity taxis, which are used as rail replacement services between Holzkirchen and Munich-Giesing.
When the lockdown will finally be lifted is still unclear. The Bayerische Regiobahn estimates that the restrictions will probably last until the end of July. In the meantime, holidaymakers and day-trippers are advised to look for other travel destinations. If you want to stay up to date, you can find out more directly on the BRB website.
The Bavarian Regiobahn: Mobility in Bavaria
The BRB has established itself as the largest private mobility provider in Germany and transports around 160 million passengers to their destinations every year. In addition to the trains, the BRB also significantly increased the frequency in the Oberland in 2021 and put new trains into operation. From December 2021, the network will be expanded towards Berchtesgaden.
But what really makes a visit to Munich special? In addition to a train ride with the BRB, there are a variety of experiences that make the city exciting. From visiting the Viktualienmarkt and strolling through Maximilianstrasse to taking a look at the carillon at Marienplatz or surfing at the Eisbachwelle - the options are as diverse as the city itself. A typical Munich experience would also be a dumpling cooking class at the Wirtshaus in der Au, followed by dinner in the dark.
Tickets and mobility
There is a simple solution for everyone who wants to use the BRB: cross-train tickets. This means passengers can transfer to other trains with just one card and benefit from a seamless travel experience. The good thing about it? Valid tickets such as the Guten Tag Ticket or the Bayern Ticket allow you to travel with ease. Tickets are available at BRB points of sale, vending machines or even in the app.
This mobility makes the BRB an important part of Bavaria's transport offering and represents a good hand when it comes to customer service. Given the current situation with switch disruptions, it is to be hoped that the closure can be resolved quickly so that passengers can soon enjoy the beauty of the Bavarian mountains again.
