Mühldorf: Cycle paths and MüMo – future of mobility in danger?
An important step for environmentally friendly mobility in the Mühldorf district was recently discussed at a meeting of the district council's environmental committee. District Administrator Max Heimerl (CSU) particularly thanked the Greens for their proposal to expand the cycle path network. The meeting focused on the opening of the new cycle path between Schwindegg and Buchbach as well as the “MüMo” sharing offer. The district has already made significant progress in this regard, not least because Inn-Salzach is now considered a certified cycling holiday region by the ADFC. The planned connection to memorial sites in Mühldorfer Hart was also discussed, which underlines the district's commitment.
But what about the existing initiatives? The district is actively working to close gaps in the cycle path network and modernize existing routes. A particularly important gap between Mühldorf and Waldkraiburg has already been successfully completed. The support ranges from planning and tendering to construction management and funding applications for projects that are to be implemented along district roads. Interestingly, ineligible costs are funded up to 30%, but a maximum of 10,000 euros per project, which benefits numerous communities.
Current bike paths and future plans
Important cycle paths have already been completed, including the routes between Feichten and Egglkofen as well as on the St 2087 between Buchbach and Schwindegg, and the first section on the St 2352 between Mühldorf and Waldkraiburg. The next phase includes further projects, the realization of which depends on the respective land acquisition negotiations - specifically in Unterreit, Heldenstein, Rattenkirchen and Niedertaufkirchen. It will be exciting to see what further progress the district makes in the coming years.
Another promising project is the sharing offer “MüMo – Mühldorf mobil”, which is of great importance for the region in order to better develop rural areas. The Mühldorf district recognizes mobility as an important location factor and continually strives for improvements in public transport. MüMo, which was initially part of the “LandMobil – out and about in rural areas” funding project, offers its users electric cars, e-scooters, e-bikes and e-cargo bikes. Bookings are made via an app that shows the availability of the vehicles.
Challenges and future of MüMo
However, the sharing offer faces challenges. Both Ampfing and Schönberg have announced that they will be exiting the project at the end of 2024. The mayor of Schönberg, Alfred Lantenhammer (CSU), pointed out the low usage and the resulting deficits, but sees the value of the project for e-mobility. The future of MüMo depends heavily on demand, and Heimerl is optimistic that despite the withdrawals there could still be demand and interest.
Overall, the coming period will show how the Mühldorf district can further advance its mobility projects and what alternatives are developing for the urban and rural population. Numerous projects are available to make life in the district even more sustainable and livable.
