EV Landshut: Two wins! Ice hockey fireworks at the home game

The EV Landshut ice hockey club can look back on a glorious weekend. With two wins, the team not only underlines its form, but also has an eye on the top places in the ice hockey league. On Friday, the Landshut team fought for a 4-1 away win against the Lausitzer Füchse in a thrilling game. But the real highlight was the thrilling duel on Sunday, in which the Eisbären Freiburg were defeated 5-4 in the VR-Bank Landshut Arena in front of 3,520 enthusiastic spectators. These successes bring the team valuable points on the way to their season goal.

In the game against Freiburg, the EVL initially seemed shaky when Travis Ewanyk scored the first goal for the guests after just 19 seconds. But Landshut was not deterred. Stanislav Dietz equalized in the 7th minute before Trevor Gooch took the lead just nine seconds later. In an open first third in which both defensive lines showed weaknesses, Gooch went one better and made it 3-1 with a spectacular solo in the 21st minute. This storm lasted until the 26th minute, when Immo made it 4-1 with a double majority. However, Freiburg showed fighting spirit and reduced the score to 4-2 before the second break with a goal from Eero Elo.

Turning points and thrills

In the final third the game really took its toll on the spectators. Jesse Koskenkorva restored the 5-2 lead in the 44th minute, but Freiburg responded with a double strike from David Trinkberger and again Ewanyk, reducing the deficit to 5-4. In the nerve-wracking final minutes, Landshut had to tremble until the final siren, but was able to hold its own and snatch the victory out of the fire, which caused great joy and relief among the fans given the turbulent final minutes.

Further challenges are on the agenda for the coming days, as the next opponent is none other than local rivals, the Eisbären Regensburg. This prestigious East Bavaria derby takes place on Friday at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday the EVL will compete at EC Bad Nauheim, where excitement is also expected.

The new boss of the gang

A special aspect of EV Landshut this season is the commitment of Uwe Krupp as coach. This legend of German ice hockey, who won two Stanley Cups with the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings, has signed a two-year contract with the traditional Bavarian club. His goal is clear: to bring Landshut, one of the founding clubs of the DEL, forward again. Krupp wants to strengthen the ice hockey location and already has clear ideas about how he can achieve this. The opportunity to make a fresh start in Landshut after his time at HC Lugano could prove to be the right deal for both sides.

The decision to bring in Krupp came about by chance. It was Bernd Truntschka who asked Krupp for his assessment of potential coaching candidates. With Krupp's experience and knowledge, Landshut is well advised, and the fans can hope for an exciting season that could shine with solid performances and a strong team. Maybe this is the beginning of a new era for EV Landshut!
