Wine festival in Abtswind: Police stop toilet thief and alcohol hooligans!

The wine festival in Abtswind, a place of celebration and enjoyment, unfortunately also became the stage for some unpleasant incidents on the night of Friday, October 25th to Saturday, October 26th, 2025. How inFranken.de According to reports, the police were called out several times after a 23-year-old man broke into a residential building to urgently go to the toilet. But that wasn't enough, after his unauthorized "tour", the young man expressed the urge to kidnap someone else's bicycle, which he then drove across the festival grounds towards the city center.

However, the security personnel did not remain idle. They caught the bicycle thief in the festival tent and immediately handed him over to the police. The stolen two-wheeler was quickly found in nearby bushes and returned to its rightful owner. The 23-year-old is now facing criminal proceedings for theft and unauthorized use of the bicycle.

Banning repeat offenders

Another serious incident also occurred that evening: a 39-year-old man who tried to defy the organizer's orders several times was finally banned from the house. Despite a change of outfit, he failed to re-enter the festival grounds and was turned back by security. Ultimately he was handed over to the police, who evicted him and initiated proceedings for trespassing.

But the excitement wasn't just evident at the wine festival. An accident was also reported outside the festival grounds around midnight. A very drunk 17-year-old driver drove her car into the ditch while her 18-year-old passenger got behind the wheel to get the car back on the road. Both had over 1.60 per mille! The police took her to the hospital where blood samples were taken. The driver is being investigated for drunk driving and driving without a license. The passenger also has to answer for his drunk driving.

Alcohol and partying

The question arises as to how much alcohol is perceived as part of partying in the region. Loud Destatis, 193.6 million liters of alcohol were taxed in Germany in 2024, which means an increase of 12.9% compared to the previous year. A trend that also has a financial aspect for many celebrations, as the alcohol tax brings the federal government revenue of 2.0 billion euros.

The numerous incidents at the wine festival in Abtswind are tragic examples of how quickly celebrations can turn negative. The organizers and security forces were called upon to ensure everything ran smoothly. We hope that people will reflect so that the joy of celebrating takes center stage and such incidents can be prevented in the future.
