Complete closure of Kemptener Straße: construction work is delayed until December!
In Kaufbeuren, Kemptener Straße will be completely closed from November 24th, 2025 until probably November 28th, 2025 due to sewer connection work. These measures are necessary in order to develop a new building on the opposite side of the street, as kaufbeuren.de reports. But construction work has already been delayed due to adverse weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances. The full closure could only actually be put in place on November 25th after freezing rain on Monday thwarted the initial plans. In addition, a bereavement in the contracted company affected the further progress of the work.
The work was originally scheduled to be completed this week, but has now been postponed to December 1st to December 5th, 2025. Kemptener Straße will remain closed while the city administration examines how the construction projects can be accelerated and the disruption to traffic can be minimized.
Detours and impact on traffic
The diversions during the construction period lead via the Hohe Buchleuthe, while the roundabout on Kemptener Straße/Kemptener Tor/Kemnater Straße remains accessible. The access to the Am Kesselberg street is accessible at any time. Cyclists can use the eastern footpath and cycle path, but must dismount to pass the construction site.
The construction work also affects local public transport. Line 6 is particularly affected, as the Am Mösele, St.-Cosmas-Straße, Salzstraße, Am Schlössle and Kemptener Tor stops are completely closed. Only the Kemptener Straße, Lachenbühl and Oberbeuren Hauptstraße stops are still served out of town, as nag-bayern.de adds. The Kemptener Tor stop for lines 75 and 76 is also affected; these instead serve the Kemptener Straße stop in both directions. Line 10 also has to suspend its stops at the Kemptener Tor stop, and short-term course changes cannot be ruled out.
A look at other construction sites
While Kaufbeuren waits for the sewer connection to be completed, the city of Immenstadt is also planning extensive construction sites. Among other things, Jahnstrasse will be renovated here, with a closure to southbound traffic from July 21, 2025. There, too, the infrastructure needs to be improved in order to counteract the renovation backlog. Such projects show how important it is to continuously maintain and modernize the city's infrastructure.
With an eye on Vienna, where the Wiener Linien focuses on track renewals, we can see the importance of such work in comparison. For example, in the construction projects there in 2025, extensive track work and modernization will be carried out, which will also lead to restrictions in public transport there, as wienerlinien.at informs. Such developments remind us not to lose sight of the importance of the infrastructure in our cities.
