Kaufbeuren celebrates 160 years of carnival history of the arts!

in the heart of Kaufbeuren, where tradition meets the present, the art strikers celebrate with passion and a lot of joy every year during the carnival season. This carnival society is not only an integral part of urban life, but also the second oldest carnival society in Bavaria. Founded in 1866 by seven buyers, the association has been shaping the foolish time in our city for almost 160 years. This is more than clear at the numerous events.

A very special highlight in the annual calendar The art rider is the Buronia gala ball. This is where the members come together to celebrate and keep the traditions up. But in addition to the countless festivities, there is also a less solemn but no less important aspect: the history and documentation of the association.

valuable treasures for posterity

In a remarkable gesture, the art rides recently handed over historical treasures to the city archive. These valuable objects include an artistically decorated club chronicle, several photo albums and numerous posters that document the carnival in Kaufbeuren from the 1860s to the recent past. Archive employee Franziska Reichart describes the documents handed over as a significant expansion on the history of the city association. The city archivist Dr. Peter Keller thanked the art riders and emphasized that the association retains the right to borrow the pieces for exhibitions.

The documents are now carefully sighted and prepared conservatory so that they will be preserved for future generations. A finding book for the club archive should be available on the homepage of the city archive by the end of the year, which is a further step in order to make the fascinating history of the art rushes to be open to a broader public.

The origin of the name

Another exciting aspect of art scre our history is the origin of the club name. Vice President Heinz Spöcker explained that there are different theories. In the 19th century horses were an important means of transportation, and it is believed that participants wore cardboard horses in carnival parades. This connection increases the popularity of the arts and contributes to the lively tradition of carnival in Kaufbeuren, who already celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2016.

If you are celebrating the Buronia Galaball next week or standing on the roadside when moving with the art ridges, you know that you are part of a long tradition that goes back to 1866. As you can see, there is something in Kaufbeuren-and the friendly and more commitment of the art strikers is irreplaceable.
