Drunk cyclists devastated Ingolstadt streets - three cars affected!

In Ingolstadt, a 38-year-old went on tour last Friday afternoon, which he would have had better. With a breath alcohol value of 2.1 per thousand, he tried to keep his vehicle under control on the bike path of Richard-Wagner-Straße. But the combination of alcohol and cycling proved to be extremely unhappy. Already on the first attempt he fell and collided with a parked car. But that was only the beginning of his failed journey, as the Augsburger Allgemeine

A second fall followed quickly, and again the man could not avoid the next car. The third time he even drove against a third vehicle in the parking row. While he left the chain of his bike on a construction site shield, the cyclist not only left a few injuries to himself - abrasions and a laceration on the elbow were the result, but also a lasting damage to the parked cars, which is estimated at around 3000 euros. A black Audi had already disappeared from the scene of the accident when the police arrived.

alcohol at the wheel: a serious topic

alcohol at the wheel is also a serious problem today. In 2014, 260 people in Germany lost their lives due to traffic accidents under the influence of alcohol. Almost 40% of those affected were young men between the ages of 18 and 34. Over 13,000 people were involved in alcohol -related accidents, as can be read in the report of the German National Library Fortunately, the numbers have declined in the past two decades, which indicates that education and strict controls have an effect. Nevertheless, there is still a lot to do, because many of these accidents happen especially on weekends and in the evening, as the statistics show.

regionally different accident rates

A look at the regional differences in alcohol-related accidents is open to the problem: While in Hamburg and Berlin the rates are less than 4%, some federal states, such as Saarland with 6.4% and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with 6.2%, reach significantly higher shares in alcohol-related traffic accidents. The Federal Statistical Office regularly publishes new key figures on these accidents on the platform Statista

social attention to the topic has an effect and initiatives to improve traffic safety are becoming increasingly important. Among other things, alcohol interlocks for rehabilitated drivers are proposed to further reduce the number of alcohol-related accidents. It is also necessary to support campaigns, such as those of the Federal Center for Health Enlightenment, which clarifies the dangers of alcohol in road traffic.
