Future of education: Teachers demand better working conditions!

Specialists and decision-makers met in Ichenhausen to discuss the working conditions of teachers. The BLLV Günzburg district association and the state school authority came together and a fruitful exchange was initiated over coffee and cake. Six members of the district association and three school councils for primary and secondary schools took part in this meeting, which was initiated by the BLLV Günzburg retreat to raise pressing issues. The futurologist Max Thinius pointed out the central role of good general conditions in everyday school life, which was clearly important to those present.

The main goal of the meeting was to develop transparent and reliable working conditions for teachers. Topics such as part-time work, the use of the mobile reserve and the effects of teacher assignments on school operations were particularly discussed. Despite the existing requirements, the school councils were open to the BLLV's suggestions. District chairman Roland Grimm and Thomas Schulze from the State Education Authority emphasized the need for viable solutions.

School law and part-time employment

An important point in the discussions was the situation of part-time teachers. This form of employment involves different regulations, some of which differ for civil servants and collective bargaining employees. According to the German School Portal, part-time employment for civil servants may be reduced to a maximum of half of the compulsory weekly number of hours, and the consent of the superior is required. For family reasons, approval can only be refused if compelling business reasons conflict with this.

In practice, this means that teachers can adjust their working hours under certain circumstances, but there is no requirement for a fixed timetable. During the discussions, participants emphasized the importance of balancing the needs of teachers with the organizational needs of schools. It is also important that part-time employees continue to have to take on class management and examinations as part of their work and that appropriate relief is necessary when the workload is disproportionate.

Future prospects

A great wish from the BLLV was that their suggestions and suggestions would be incorporated into the school authority's future decisions. The dialogue between both sides was considered extremely important in order to sustainably improve the working conditions for teachers. At a time when good framework conditions are essential, the discussion initiative was a promising step that everyone involved would like to continue. In a sense, this is the key to a harmonious everyday school life, which benefits both teachers and students.

The findings from the meeting will now play a role in the next discussions and decisions, so it will be interesting to see how the discussions will develop further. The will to work together is noticeable on both sides, and one can be convinced that the exchange was not only characterized by coffee and cake, but also by a clear goal: to promote the well-being of the teachers and thus the students.
