Nationwide Warning Day: Raising awareness and testing for everyone on September 11th!
In a few days it will be time again: Watch out! A warning day will be declared nationwide on September 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. to raise awareness among the population about the issue of safety and personal precautions. That is the initiator Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), which wants to use this measure to test the various warning systems in Germany.
The test warning is issued via the Federal Modular Warning System (MoWaS) and sent to various warning multipliers, including radio and television stations, digital display boards, warning apps and the cell broadcast system. This incredible diversity ensures that millions of people in Germany will receive the trial warning. Many municipalities are also trying out their own warning devices, such as sirens and loudspeaker trucks, to further increase alertness.
What awaits us on warning day?
It starts at 11:00 a.m. and the nationwide all-clear is given at around 11:45 a.m., with the exception of Cell Broadcast, where no all-clear is issued. Citizens now also have the opportunity to share their experiences with the various warning channels in an online survey warntag-umfrage.de to share. This survey will be open until September 18, 2025 and is intended to help optimize warning processes in Germany.
BBK President Ralph Tiesler emphasizes the importance of citizen participation and encourages the population to provide feedback. Also BBK Vice President Dr. René Funk describes the warning day as a “stress test under full load”, which makes a decisive contribution to checking the transmission chain. Given that 98 percent of those surveyed in a survey consider regular testing of all warning channels to be important, citizens' interest in this initiative remains unbroken.
A look into the future
The nationwide warning day takes place annually on the second Thursday in September. The warning systems were successfully tested as early as 2024. The warning day is not just an exercise, but an essential part of Germany's security strategy. It turns out that raising public awareness of warnings and taking precautions is the top priority.
So anyone who hears a noise that is a little louder than usual on September 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. should not be surprised. It could be the sound of sirens or a signal on your cell phone - and it's all just a test to better protect us all. So don’t forget: Take part in the survey – your feedback counts!
