Future prospects for soldiers: Welcome to Freyung-Grafenau!
Freyung, Deutschland - The Freyung-Grafenau region warmly receives new soldiers and sees them as a valuable reinforcement for social life. On July 18, 2025, a joint reception of the city of Freyung and the district took place, which welcomed around 40 newly offset members of the Bundeswehr. On this occasion, regional managers Stefan Schuster and conversion manager Carolin Schuster described the region as a livable habitat and not just as a place of work. Schuster emphasized the structural and economic strengths of the district and emphasized that the event should show perspectives for the soldiers, both professionally and family. Freyung-Grafenau offers attractive employers and a high quality of life that should be of interest to many soldiers, especially with regard to the demographic change and the shortage of skilled workers.
The event, in which a city tour with tour guide Herbert Schiller was also on the program, not only served to get to know each other, but also to exchange and arrive. Sebastian Schlutz, Bundeswehr representative of the city of Freyung, put the close connection between the city and the Bundeswehr site in the foreground. Carolin Schuster, who gave practical tips for everyday life, pointed out the social importance of the Bundeswehr for Freyung.
a path of connection
The bond between the Bundeswehr and the region has grown over decades. This was also made in a conversation between District Administrator Sebastian Gruber, Mayor Dr. Olaf Heinrich and Lieutenant Colonel André Wüstner, the chairman of the German Bundeswehr Association. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the European region of Donau-Moldau (Eri) Freyung-Grafenau/Passauer Land, the good connections between the Bundeswehr site Freyung and the region were highlighted. Gruber emphasized the cooperation between the Bundeswehr and the district, which is shown in the integration of many soldiers into social life. The connection was particularly upgraded to the neighboring district after the elimination of other locations.
"Such a good connection between the Bundeswehr and the municipality is desirable," said Wüstner. Mayor Dr. Heinrich emphasized the appreciation of the Bundeswehr regardless of political views, which underlines the solidarity of the region.
The challenge of personnel lack of personnel
Especially in times when the Bundeswehr strives for a “trend -turning staff” to win more young people, reception in Freyung is an important step. The current staff of the Bundeswehr stagnates around 183,000 soldiers, while 20,000 new settings are necessary annually to compensate for exits. In this context, the Freyung location is becoming increasingly interesting for recruits. The Bundeswehr invests in advertising measures and plans new campaigns to arouse the interest of young people and to reduce the dropout rate for recruits that are currently 21 %.
In addition, initiatives such as "Made in FRG" increase the degree of awareness of the region, which could promote the settlement of young families and the long -term binding of young people to the district. New programs should also improve the compatibility of family and service and create modern barracks.
Overall, the reception in Freyung shows how important it is to build bridges between the Bundeswehr and the regional economy and to consider the soldiers not only as military personnel, but also as valuable members of the community. After all, they are who enrich the region with their commitment and make their contribution to social interaction.
