in Freising, more precisely in the park road, an incident has been done that focuses on traffic safety. On June 21, 2025, around 2:35 p.m., a 53-year-old man was checked by the police. At first, the officials assumed that he was traveling with a pedelec. But during the check it turned out that the vehicle was equipped with a gas lever and therefore had to be classified as a small skating wheel. But the difficulties for the man did not stop here.

He had no driver's license and no insurance for the small skate. The police announced that he would report him for driving without a driver's license and from the compulsory insurance law. In addition, the policeman noticed a smell of alcohol that could not be ignored. A test carried out resulted in a value of more than 0.5 per thousand. The person concerned has thus maneuvered himself in a delicate location, since an administrative offense procedure was initiated due to alcoholization. In Germany there is a fine of 500 euros, a month of driving and two points in the traffic offender card. For the man, however, the driving ban could be omitted, since he has no driver's license, which allows things to do something.

But what does that mean specifically for cyclists and similar vehicles? According to the specialist lawyer for traffic law, there is no defined 0.5 per thousand border for cyclists in Germany. From a blood alcohol value of 1.6 per thousand, they are considered to be silent and must then expect fines or even prison terms for up to a year. But even with low values ​​below 1.6 per thousand, punishment can be done if you cannot drive safely. Thus, relative inability to drive can be assumed from 0.3 per thousand, which can lead to further consequences in the event of conspicuous driving behavior.

The dangers of alcohol consumption in traffic should not be underestimated. As reported by the website "know your limit", alcohol at the wheel is punished under 0.3 per thousand. The strict principle applies: if you drive, you should be sober. If an accident happens and alcohol is involved, a partial debt can also be determined below 0.3 per thousand. There is even a zero-promille limit for beginners and under 21-year-olds.

Responsibility in road traffic

The topic becomes even more complex if you consider the possibility of medical-psychological reports (MPU), which can be arranged after a violation, especially for repeat offenders. Such an expert opinion can decide on the continued state of the driver's license. Here it is clear: if you often get into difficulties, you have to expect even harder punishments.
