Burglar strikes twice: chaos in Freising city center!

On Monday night, a burglar was out and about in downtown Freising and left chaos in the elementary school on Untere Hauptstrasse. According to the South German newspaper The perpetrator managed to pry open the front door and gain access. While he rummaged through cupboards and drawers in the staff room, he also forced open the deputy headteacher's office. In total, the burglar stole a low, three-digit amount of cash and left property damage amounting to around 500 euros.

But that wasn't all: the same perpetrator probably broke into the Asam building on the same night. Here he pried open a window at the back and used brute force to get into the tourist information desk area. Despite clear evidence of his crime, the burglar found no valuables there and had to leave the building without any loot, which resulted in property damage of around 5,000 euros, reports fs-live.de.

The security situation in Germany

A look at the current burglary statistics shows that such acts are a growing problem. According to a report by HomeInsider A total of 77,819 residential burglaries were registered in Germany in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of around 18 percent compared to the previous year. The average amount of damage per burglary was 3,500 euros, and the total damage amounted to an unimaginable 340 million euros.

The burglary rate is particularly high in large cities: with 98 burglaries per 100,000 inhabitants, urban regions are significantly more affected than rural areas. While in rural regions there are only 61 burglaries per 100,000 inhabitants. Here in Bavaria the situation is at least comparatively better, but parts of the nationwide trend can also be felt here.

Joint efforts against break-ins

The incidents in Freising show once again how important it is to address the issues of security and burglary protection. Experts recommend a combination of different security measures - from structural and mechanical to electronic solutions. The police also offer free security advice to help citizens better protect themselves against break-ins.
