Kneipp week in Landau: crèche children celebrate with a big water festival!

In Landau in the Dingolfing-Landau district, this week it was all about water and the Kneipp teachings. The certified daycare center Maria Ward organized a lively Kneipp week, which ended with a splashy water festival on Friday afternoon. Under the direction of Carolin Hofer-Lackermaier, the “Bears” and “Frogs” crèche groups dealt intensively with the five pillars of Kneipp therapy: water, nutrition, order of life, herbs and exercise. These five principles, which the Bavarian priest Sebastian Kneipp developed in the 19th century, also form the basis for the work of Kneipp kindergartens, which are becoming increasingly important in Germany and beyond, as Betzold reports.

The children looked forward to the practical stations that were set up in the garden of the daycare center. From a barefoot path to a scent memory to a singing bowl ceremony – the little participants were able to experience the diversity of the Kneipp principles directly. At the end of the festival, the children proudly presented their findings to parents and grandparents and were visibly thrilled when they were rewarded for their experiences with a Kneipp medal and stamps.

A day full of joy and gratitude

The leader and her team, all certified Kneipp educators, thanked the parents for their support and donations of materials. This commitment from the parents, combined with the dedication of the teachers, created a happy atmosphere that encouraged the children to learn with great enthusiasm. The event concluded with a sung song: “Sebastian Kneipp really liked water,” which perfectly summed up the joy and fun the children had that day.

Since 2009, the Maria Ward daycare center has been living the principles of Kneipp therapy, which is based on Kneipp's belief that a natural and healthy lifestyle is crucial for the development of children. This philosophy is implemented in the daily work with the little ones in various activities and concepts, which actively involves them in nature and its elements.

Overall, the water festival impressively demonstrated how important such practical experiences are in early childhood education. It's nice to see how the principles of Kneipp are still so alive and relevant today, giving children a good understanding of health and well-being, and how institutions like the Maria Ward daycare center make a valuable contribution to this.
