Astrazeneca and Alexion: Together for a stronger common good!

What is happening in the world of AstraZeneca and Alexion Switzerland? On June 18, 2025, the two companies held their “Share & Care Day”. This event was created to show their social commitment. Over 100 employees took the opportunity to leave their jobs and actively participate in social, ecological and charitable projects. This not only strengthened the team spirit among the employees, but also made a direct contribution to the community.

The numerous activities included everything from environmental work to accompanying older or disabled people. Florian Saur, Managing Director of AstraZeneca Switzerland, emphasized how important this day is for team spirit. Katrin Lipp, HR manager, emphasized the importance of a trusting workplace culture. In German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland, employees were involved in seven projects, ranging from checking invasive plant profiles to a communal lunch with the residents of a residential and work center.

Diverse projects for good

The institutions and activities supported were diverse and had a common goal: to do something good. For example, invasive plant species were removed from the Werkhof in Jöchler Baar, while the Ökihof Community Cleanup in Baar cleaned public spaces and river banks. Another highlight was the day with people at the Butterfly Cham residential and work center, where the employees helped with a bingo game. The care facilities in Baar also benefited from these great operations, which not only brought work, but also joy and variety into everyday life. The Cham forest cooperative benefited from the renovation of natural playgrounds, and the Samedi du Partage in Lausanne diligently collected food for those in need.

The commitment was consistently positively acknowledged by the project partners. This type of collaboration promotes fresh perspectives and a better understanding of each other. It shows once again that companies with a strong social focus can also make a noticeable difference in the community.

Commitment beyond the “Share & Care Day”.

AstraZeneca shows its commitment not only on special days. With the Young Health Program (YHP), the company aims to help young people between the ages of 10 and 24 in vulnerable environments. This global program, which has existed since 2010 and is active in over 40 countries, focuses on the prevention of common, non-communicable diseases. The first YHP will start in Austria in autumn 2024, which, with the help of the SIPCAN association, is intended to help children and young people have a positive influence on their lifestyle.

Today, companies are faced with the challenge of positioning themselves as important players in the non-profit sector. How this can be achieved is regularly discussed in online seminars. Topics such as the advantages of cooperation between companies and non-profit organizations are discussed. The goal is to build sustainable partnerships and offer society more than just making profits. At this point it becomes clear that large companies also have a social mission - and can truly lead by example.

In an environment where collaboration between business and the common good is becoming increasingly important, it will be interesting to see how AstraZeneca and Alexion's initiatives will develop in the future. Maybe they will inspire other companies to also become active and make a positive contribution, in the spirit of Zuger Zeitung, [AstraZeneca].
