Tigers clearly lose to Memmingen: 1:4 defeat in the home game
Things aren't going according to plan for the onesto Tigers Bayreuth in the league. In yesterday's home game against the Memmingen Indians, the Tigers had to admit defeat 1:4. The start of the game was delayed by 20 minutes because the warm-up window was broken. Despite these unfavorable circumstances, the Tigers showed a strong defensive performance in the first period, especially their number 1 in goal, McLeod, who saved some critical shots and survived the first period goalless (0-0). However, the dominance of the Memmingen Indians was obvious, with an impressive 18:3 shots on goal ratio against Bayreuth.
Memmingen got going in the second third. Ouderkirk gave the visitors a 0-1 lead in the 23rd minute. Bayreuth didn't have much going for it in the power play - the only dangerous shot came from captain Verelst, but it couldn't be used. Brassard increased the score to 0-2 in the 29th minute, also on the power play. With this 2-0 deficit, the Tigers went into the second break and had to think about their offensive strategy.
The Tigers come back
In the final period it seemed as if the Tigers would find a bright spot. Barber scored the next goal in the 43rd minute to make it 1-2 and gave the home crowd hope. But Memmingen was not deterred: Ettwein scored in the 55th minute to make it 1:3 and set new standards. Finally, Homjakovs scored an empty net goal in the 58th minute to make the final score 1:4. The Tigers were very frustrated because they were again unable to score points in the power play - the statistics show 0/4 for Bayreuth and 1/3 for Memmingen.
In terms of penalties, the Tigers had a total of 11 and the Indians had 13 penalty minutes. The next challenge for the Tigers is on Sunday against the Höchstadt Alligators, followed by further games against SC Riessersee in Garmisch and the Stuttgart Rebels.
The setbacks in comparison
This result comes after another difficult run for the Tigers, who lost 5-3 to Memmingen in a hard-fought match on Valentine's Day (Merkur). In this duel, the Tigers were again on the losing end and failed to maintain their lead. Matej Pekr and his team are now on the rise and are looking forward to the next challenge.
It will be crucial for the Tigers against Höchstadt to draw the right conclusions from the last games and optimize their game. After all, the season is far from over and with determination anything could still be possible.
