Ethical AI focus: Lecture on opportunities and risks in Bayreuth
What is the new in the world of artificial intelligence? An exciting lecture by Prof. Dr. Agnes Koschmider at the University of Bayreuth will give a deep insight into the ethical aspects of chatt and other AI technologies. On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in the seminar room 3 of the RW21 of the Bayreuth Adult Education Center, interested parties have the opportunity to learn more about these topics and to take part in a discussion. According to bayreuth.de Koschmider will illuminate the effects of AI on different areas of life and highlight the importance of ethical and legal guidelines for a responsibility with these technologies.
The use of artificial intelligence can create new content, be it in the form of texts, pictures or videos. But this also brings challenges, especially as far as the risks of deep fakes are concerned. These manipulated media content is often difficult to recognize as counterfeits, which can lead to dangerous disinformation. The lecture series will also address the need for ethical and technical measures to contain such risks.
ethical challenges in the focus
The questions about artificial intelligence are complex. Generative AI not only has the potential to create content, but also to raise significant ethical concerns. According to Computerweekly.com there are a number of challenges that companies have to recognize. These include data protection injuries, plagiarism and the unintentional distribution of harmful content.
TAD Rosel and BCG emphasizes the importance of a clear strategy to use the advantages of AI responsibly. The eight central aspects to take into account generative AI ethics are:
- spread of harmful content
- copyright and legal risks
- data protection violations
- publication of sensitive information
- reinforcement of existing prejudices
- role of employees
- origin of the data
- lack of explanability
UNESCO and the ethical responsibility
Another important aspect is the recommendation of UNESCO for the ethical use of AI. This was developed in a two -year process in which experts and stakeholders from different regions were included. It offers a global reference framework for states that respects and promotes human rights and fundamental freedoms. According to Unesco.de there are topics such as privacy, transparency and non-discrimination in the foreground.
The recommendation calls for an ethical impact assessment for AI systems to evaluate their advantages and risks. She also sends a clear message against the use of AI for mass surveillance or social scoring. The aim is to shape a digital transformation that is respectful of humans and supports the sustainable development goals of the UN.
The lecture on July 1 will offer space to discuss these essential questions and bring themselves up to date. Interested parties should register quickly because the number of participants is limited. Tickets are available until June 24th, remaining places are offered at the box office. Further information is available at www.vhs-bayreuth.de or by phone at 0921 50703840.
