There will be some traffic disruptions in the Bamberg region from Monday, June 16, 2025. A3 Nordbayern GmbH has announced a complete closure of the B505 federal highway. This closure primarily affects the entrance and exit ramps in the direction of Nuremberg and is part of an extensive expansion of the A3 motorway, which will be expanded to six lanes. The reason for the measure is the construction of a new bridge near Pommersfelden, which is of great importance for the future transport infrastructure.
The closure begins at 10 a.m. on Monday and ends at 6 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025. During this time, however, access from the B505 to the A3 towards Frankfurt remains unrestricted. Drivers who want to drive to Bamberg can exit at the Pommersfelden junction. There is a diversion for everyone traveling towards Nuremberg: You should exit at the Höchstadt-Ost junction and take the U100 on-demand diversion to the A3 towards Frankfurt. For frequent travelers, this is important information worth keeping in mind!
Extensive construction work
Those responsible are aware that such construction work involves a lot of effort and inconvenience. But the measures are essential to prevent the... Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport to ensure highlighted reliable transport infrastructure. Good transport connections are necessary for personal freedom and economic prosperity. The expansion of the A3 between Biebelried and Fürth/Erlangen is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region and is scheduled to be completed this year.
The upcoming work also includes the new construction of the BW 357a underpass, which leads the B505 under the A3. After the southern part of the structure has already been completed, the demolition of the northern part of the structure and the redesign of the Pommersfelden junction are now on the agenda. These measures are intended to increase traffic safety and further improve future connections.
Secure traffic flow
The complete closure of the B505 and the entrance and exit ramps in the direction of Nuremberg requires precise planning. Drivers have to prepare for diversions, especially those who come from the region and want to drive towards Nuremberg or Bamberg. The diversion routes were planned to the best of our knowledge and belief in order not to unnecessarily disrupt the flow of traffic.
- Richtung Frankfurt: Zufahrt von der B505 auf die A3 bleibt geöffnet; Abfahrt von der A3 aus Richtung Nürnberg in Pommersfelden ist uneingeschränkt.
- Richtung Nürnberg: Umleitung über die Bedarfsumleitung U99 auf die A3 in Richtung Frankfurt, Wende an Anschlussstelle Höchstadt-Nord zurück in Richtung Nürnberg.
- Richtung Bamberg: Abfahrt an Anschlussstelle Höchstadt-Ost und Umleitung über U100 auf die A3 in Richtung Frankfurt bleibt offen.
