Full closure on Heinrichsdamm: renovation work starts now!

In Bamberg, Heinrichsdamm will have to close from September 1st to September 15th at the latest. This measure affects the section between Luisenstrasse and house number 11 in the direction of Luitpoldbrücke. The reason for the full closure is urgent renovation work that is necessary for traffic safety and to maintain the road, reports bamberg-meine-stadt.de.

The city has clearly set itself the goal of completing the work in time for the end of the summer holidays. The road surface will be renewed, the drainage channel will be repaired and several manhole covers will be renovated. All of these measures are intended to help ensure the long-term durability of the road and prevent damage caused by water or frost.

Detours and accessibility

Despite the construction work, access to the sidewalks and house entrances remains guaranteed at all times. Cyclists can use Heinrichsdamm until it is closed on Luisenstrasse. A diversion will be set up for other traffic via Wilhelmstrasse and Friedrichstrasse to Willy-Lessing-Strasse.

However, traffic routing is changing for residents: the one-way street rule has been lifted in certain sections. Access for residents is via Willy-Lessing-Straße, and parking is only permitted on the right-hand side in the direction of travel. The return journey takes place via a signposted turning area at the end of the dead end back to Willy-Lessing-Straße.

Impact on bus traffic

The construction work also has an impact on bus traffic. Lines 920 and 936 must be rerouted and the “Wilhelmsplatz” stop will be eliminated. However, a replacement stop is available for lines 905, 918, 922 and 930. There are no changes for buses traveling out of town.

The measures on Heinrichsdamm are aimed at maintaining a safe and passable condition of the road. The city administration is striving to complete the work quickly and thereby improve traffic conditions for all users. Despite the inevitable inconveniences during the renovation work, it seems as if the city has shown a good hand in planning the construction site.

While Bamberg is busy working on Heinrichsdamm, there are also interesting discussions on historical and cultural topics, such as the debates about the location of the biblical Mt. Sinai. This discussion also takes place in the context of archaeological excavations in the Negev, with Har Karkom considered a possible site, reports biblicalarchaeology.org.

The topic surrounding Mt. Sinai, with the different approaches to its geographical location and archeology, may seem distant, but it shows how exciting and complex the historical and archeological debates are that have accompanied us through the centuries. This can also be transferred to the current construction projects in our city, where historical and current developments can always learn from each other.
