BuB calls for clear future planning for Bamberg anchor center!
A hot topic is being tackled in the Bamberg city council: The Bamberg Independent Citizens (BuB) parliamentary group has submitted an application for a binding status report on the future of the anchor center (AEO) and on the city's decentralized accommodation concept. Again Wiesentbote reported, the topic is on the agenda for the next meeting, which is attracting a lot of attention from many in the city.
The time limit until December 31, 2025, which was set by a joint declaration between the city of Bamberg and the Free State of Bavaria, is particularly explosive. Daniela Reinfelder, the parliamentary group leader of the BuB, has urgently called for a clear status of negotiations with the Free State as well as a realistic schedule and corresponding milestones to be worked out by the end of the year. “There are always signs that the Free State wants to continue the anchor center beyond 2025,” said Reinfelder. This would go against the original time limit and cause anger in the city's society, especially in the east of Bamberg, as BuB city councilor Karin Einwag emphasizes.
Unclear perspectives and concerns of citizens
The group also expresses concern about the lack of clarity regarding the decentralized accommodation concept, which was launched in 2024. What about the location criteria, capacities and financing? In order to clarify these questions, the BuB not only requires a detailed report on the current status, but also a monthly report to the responsible committees. “Planning security is essential for our residents, schools, volunteers and the entire city development,” continued Einwag.
An important point in the application is the call for small, socially acceptable facilities instead of large structures. Klaus Stieringer, another BuB city councilor, notes that you definitely have to have a good hand here in order to guarantee social compatibility. In addition, transparent information on follow-up costs and security expenses should also be provided if the Free State wants to stay longer in order to take citizens' concerns seriously.
Key points of the application at a glance
| aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Written status report AEO | Legal/negotiation status, scenarios, schedule, resource effects |
| Status report decentralized concept | Project status since 2024, milestones, location & capacity planning |
| Monthly reports | To the Social/Conversion Senate until the decision/implementation |
| Public summary of the reports | On the city website, where permitted |
On the whole, the group expects clear answers and a comprehensible roadmap from the responsible authorities and the Free State. So one has to hope that far-reaching clarity will be created at the next city council meeting in order to strengthen citizens' trust in local decision-makers. The questions and concerns about the future of the anchor center are high, and it is time for the city leaders to provide the people of Bamberg with an answer that they can identify with.
