Big choir singing in Bavaria: Become part of Rattles project!
The anticipation is big in Bavaria! Sir Simon Rattle, chief conductor of the Bavarian Radio (BRSO), has launched an exciting project: "Singing with Sir Simon - many choirs, an orchestra". Layers from all over Bavaria should be given the opportunity to make music together with the BRSO and to apply for this outrageous project by June 27, 2025. The aim is to create an unforgettable musical experience with up to 450 singers.
In the Isarphilharmonie Munich, rattle already leads rehearsals from Mahler's sixth symphony and uses his experience and passion to bring choirs together. The final concerts are already planned for July 2026 in Munich and Bad Kissingen and will present the striking sounds of the "Carmina Burana". Cooperation with the choirs is intended to put the impressive musical quality in the spotlight and deepen the joy of music.
applications and workshops
application options can be found on the website www.br.de/bayernsend. In the coming months, workshops with choir directors and visits to the participating choirs will be offered to support the preparations for the big concerts. Rattle emphasizes the importance of this cooperation and emphasizes how much he is looking forward to encounters with the Bavarian choir scene.
A pre-jury consisting of representatives of the four Bavarian choir associations will make a pre-selection of the applications. In the final round, the final decision is made by Rattle himself, members of the BR choir and the BRSO. The Bavarian Choir Associations-Bavarian Singing Association, Choral Association Bayerisch-Schwaben, Franconian Singers' Association and Maintal Singing Association-are actively involved as a cooperation partner, which creates a strong basis for this musical initiative.
a conductor with vision
Sir Simon Rattle, who worked for the BRSO for the first time in 2010 and has been maintaining an intensive relationship with the orchestra in 2010, is known for captivating the first rows with his charisma and joy of experimentation. His repertoire ranges from Rameau to modern music, and its ambitions also include the development of historical performance practice with the BRSO. In autumn 2023 he finally officially took on the role of the chief conductor of both ensembles and thus brings a breath of fresh air to the Munich music scene.
The impressive musical career of Rattle led him to the great orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin State Chapel. He has just been awarded the Ernst of Siemens Musik Prize in 2025, which underlines his commitment and influence in the world of classical music. His previous recordings with the BRSO, including works by Wagner, Mahler and Haydn, were honored with no less than outstanding prices, such as the Diapason d’Or.
The musical highlight of the project will be the joint work in the Circus Krone in Munich and the anniversary concert "40 Years of Kissinger Sommer", which will bring out the talents of the Bavarian choirs in full splendor. With pockets full of strength and passion, the year 2025 could be unforgettable for the Bavarian music scene!
