Wagner remains optimistic despite the 6-0 defeat: FCA is looking for stability!

A shock for FC Augsburg: Coach Sandro Wagner's team lost 6-0 to RB Leipzig, thus suffering the worst home defeat in Bundesliga history. After the game in the WWK Arena, the mood was anything but peaceful. The angry fans demanded a clear reaction in the next games. Despite the devastating defeat, Wagner is optimistic and believes in the stability of his team. “I feel the trust of my superiors,” he said when asked whether he still had the support of those responsible at FCA. Sports director Benjamin Weber underlined this statement and confirmed that the path taken will be continued with the new coach.

The game itself was sobering for the hosts: Augsburg went into the dressing room 0-4 in the first half. The goals for Leipzig were scored by Yan Diomande, Rômulo, Antonio Nusa and Christoph Baumgartner. In the second half, Leipzig scored two more goals from Assan Ouédraogo and Castello Lukeba. The FCA defense revealed serious weaknesses, and goalkeeper Finn Dahmen couldn't cover himself with glory - he was particularly unhappy with the sixth goal conceded.

The challenges of FC Augsburg

The fluctuations in FCA's performance are alarming. The team has currently conceded 20 goals in eight games, which corresponds to an average of 2.5 goals per game. Things look particularly bleak at home: Augsburg conceded 14 goals in four home games, an average of 3.5 per game. “We are in a discovery phase,” said player Fabian Rieder, who asks for patience during this difficult time.

However, coach Wagner, who has only been in office for a short time, points out that the style of play does not represent a structural problem. He points to the successes against Wolfsburg and Cologne and sees the potential for the future in the young team. But the next challenge is coming soon: second division team VfL Bochum is waiting for Augsburg in the DFB Cup.

The situation compared to the league

At first glance it looks statistically equal for Augsburg, but the reality is sobering. Against Leipzig, Augsburg were inferior in many respects, especially on offense. While Leipzig, which has established itself as the second power in the league behind Bayern Munich, is almost unstoppable this season and has won all but one draw, Augsburg urgently needs to work on its own efficiency in order to be able to survive against the other teams.

The fans and those in charge hope that Wagner's team can stabilize quickly. After all, FCA has experienced many ups and downs in recent years. According to Transfermarkt, a change of coach could not be ruled out in such times if the desired development does not occur. But for now everyone is counting on continuity and an increase in performance in the coming weeks.
