Dragonboat rudder from Bad Waldsee paddling for a life without cancer!
On July 19, 2025, a remarkable event was held in Aschaffenburg: the first hiking trip in the dragon boat. Initiated by the initiative "We all sit in a boat - paddling against cancer", the event had attracted numerous participants from different regions, including the castle kite Aschaffenburg, the Weser Pinkies from Bremen, the Pink Fighters from Saar and the Rowing Club Bad Waldsee. This hiking trip was a refreshing counter offer to the pink hiking trip of the German Canoe Association, which was particularly reserved for breast cancer. The invitation was not only for this group, but also for everyone else who suffers from cancer and are looking for a way to do sports.
The dragon boat paddle is an excellent opportunity for regeneration for many. In Aschaffenburg, the participants were given the opportunity to get to know each other on Friday evening. Saturday started with an inspiring city tour that motivated the participants for the upcoming paddle tour. The hiking ride itself extended over impressive 18 kilometers on the Main - a real challenge that was on a river for the first time for the Bad Waldseer paddlers. After the last bend was mastered, the participants felt exhaustion, but satisfaction about a jointly completed adventure was obvious.
sporting possibilities for everyone
The hiking trip in Aschaffenburg has sparked interest in further events of this kind. In Bad Waldsee in particular there are numerous offers for cancer who are looking for sporting activities. For example, interested parties can come to trial training in dragon boat paddling every Thursday at 5:45 p.m. The only prerequisite for participating is the swimming capacity.
In addition, the "Pink Paddling" initiative invites all sports enthusiasts to remain active in summer. The summer training takes place from April to October and offers two groups: Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A colorful program from strength and endurance training is offered for the winter months and here too it is trained every week on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
community and exchange of experiences
The community is an essential part of the various offers. Monthly evening meetings in Tübingen provide an exchange of experiences and information, with experts giving the participants valuable insights. These meetings take place alternately on Mondays or Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. and offer a great platform for those affected to network. Christine Tetzlaff's commitment, who acts as the contact person for the FSH group and the Pink Paddling initiative, also brings a personal touch to the community in which everyone is there for each other.
For everyone who has become curious and want to actively participate in the dragon boat paddling, Christine Tetzlaff is available for questions at any time-both by phone on 01 60-96 24 49 95 and via email.
It is clear that such community challenges not only promote fitness and health, but also increase cohesion and joie de vivre in a special way.
