Amberg students honored: social commitment to the community!
Last Friday, July 14, 2025, the city of Amberg experienced a special holiday of recognition: In a solemn ceremony in the Small Town Hall Hall, 16 students from the Dreifaltigkeits Middle School were honored for their remarkable commitment to the “Amberg Youngsters Help” project. Mayor Michael Cerny was proud of the young people's achievements and presented the certificates, which are not only an award for their voluntary work, but also represent valuable additional qualifications for future CVs. “Volunteering is an important part of our society and promotes personal development,” said Cerny in his speech.
The project, which was launched in 2014, underwent a realignment in 2023 by the volunteer agency, led by Elisabeth Triller. During the two-hour assignments in kindergartens and retirement homes, the young people not only gained filtered experiences, but also significantly strengthened their social skills. “Your commitment to harmonious coexistence is great,” said volunteer project manager Dieter Gugg, praising the students’ efforts.
Personal development and social responsibility
In addition to the mayor, school district director Stephan Tischer and deputy principal Armin Küst also had their say. Both reported the positive changes they observed in the young people, such as increased self-confidence and a sense of responsibility. In personal reports, the award-winning students shared the experiences they had gained during their voluntary work in the various institutions.
Another highlight of the day was the uncomplicated networking. The event continued into a stimulating round with a group photo and personal conversations between participants and those responsible. In the future, the “Amberg Youngsters Help” project will be expanded to all schools in Amberg in the 2025/2026 school year so that even more young people can gain this valuable experience. Interested students will find a registration link on the volunteer agency's homepage that they can use to register.
Volunteering in the city
The focus on volunteer work is becoming increasingly important in Amberg. The volunteer agency has now organized an exchange of experiences for project managers in the town hall, where 24 participants were present. Martin Reinhardt, head of the Office for Social Affairs, emphasized the central importance of volunteering for the community. Susanne Augustin, head of the social department, praised the impressive results of the volunteer agency, which has been able to mobilize around 1,500 volunteers since it was founded in 2011.
The agency offers a variety of opportunities for volunteers in different areas, including offering help to those in need, integrating asylum seekers and numerous cultural projects. The offers are as diverse as the 88 offers from 90 cooperation partners that are listed on the volunteer exchange. In addition, 54 organizations have already applied for gold and blue volunteer cards, which offer additional benefits to volunteers in Amberg.
From discounts from around 224 local companies to special campaigns for seniors: In Amberg, volunteer work is not only encouraged, but also celebrated. There are already twelve events in the calendar for 2025, which we cordially invite everyone who is interested to get involved and take part. The agency not only interacts with the young helpers, but also promotes integration projects and offers reviews of past activities.
In this warm-hearted atmosphere, the commitment of Amberg's young people not only strengthens society, but also promotes good cooperation - a true win-win situation for everyone involved. Upper Palatinate echo and Amberg.de report in detail about this initiative, which not only reflects social interaction, but also shows how diverse volunteer work is in Amberg.
