Altötting halves diaper bags: parents have to change!

The city of Altötting is facing changes that affect new parents: From January 1, 2026, the number of free diaper bags for newborns will be halved from 24 to 12. The city administration made this decision to take into account the increasing garbage fees, which are rising from 1.20 euros to 4.40 euros per 70 liter garbage bag. Mayor Stephan Antwerp explained: “We have to react to the increased costs.” In 2023 and 2024, costs of over 3,000 euros per year have already been incurred, as a total of 106 vouchers for diaper bags were issued in 2023 and 120 in 2024.

This cut will significantly reduce costs for the city. While the previous expenses are to be reduced from 12,672 euros to an estimated 3,456 euros, the parents will still retain a value of 52.80 euros from the remaining diaper bags. The city council approved this proposal unanimously. Another item on the agenda was the discussion about new safety precautions for the upcoming Christmas market on Kapellplatz, which opens on November 28th.

New fee schedule from 2025

But it's not just diaper bags that are becoming more expensive - garbage fees are also changing fundamentally. From January 1, 2025 there will be new structural fees for waste disposal. The size and number of garbage cans can be selected as required. There is an obligation to connect to the residual waste and organic waste bin, but if you compost yourself, the organic waste bin can be omitted. The residual and organic waste bins are usually collected every 14 days, while the paper bin is only emptied every four weeks.

The fees for residual waste bins until 2024 provide for different prices for different sizes. For example, the fee for a 40 liter bin is 3.50 euros per month, while a 240 liter bin costs 21 euros. From 2025, basic fees for waste disposal of 5 euros per month for residential buildings and 12 euros for commercial businesses will also be introduced; They are staggered according to the size of the converted usable area. Details about the new fees can be found on the EVA waste entsorgung website.

Water and sewer fees

Water and sewer fees are also billed at the end of the year. The basis is actual consumption. Citizens receive a written request to read their water meters, which they can do via various channels such as the citizen portal or in person. In the event of a change of ownership, for example when selling real estate, this must be reported immediately in order to issue the fee notices correctly.
