Sporty and colorful: Integrative festival in Wunsiedel on July 12th!
On July 12, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a sporting, integrative festival will take place in the triple gymnasium at the Wunsiedel elementary and middle school. Under the motto “Wunsiedel is colorful”, families with and without a migrant background are cordially invited to experience the diversity of sport together. The event offers a packed program for children up to 12 years old and their parents. From football and chess to judo and badminton, the range of activities promises to offer something for everyone. Particularly noteworthy is the newly introduced children's gymnastics, which appeals to the youngest participants between the ages of 1 and 12. When the weather is nice, the soccer field is even used, so that football enthusiasts get their money's worth here.
Physical well-being is also taken care of on site. All sporting activities are organized by experienced trainers and volunteers from various clubs. The festival is supported by numerous local institutions, including the Turnverein Wunsiedel e.V., the SV Holenbrunn and the Schachfreunde Fichtelgebirge e.V.. At the end of the day, everyone aged 12 and over can take part in a big football game, which is organized by SV Holenbrunn and will start at 12:30 p.m. If you want to take part, you should bring a good mood and indoor sneakers!
Why integration through sport is important
Such events are not only fun for the whole family, but also a significant step towards integration. The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has funded 26 projects on integration through sport with a total of 55,000 euros to make it easier for migrants to access sports clubs. These projects, as the example “Wet up to the Ears” in Nürtingen shows, are specifically tailored to the needs of these groups and promote teamwork and social participation.
Sports clubs also play a central role in the integration of migrants. The federal program “Integration through Sport” aims to inspire girls and women with a migrant background to take part in sporting activities in clubs. Current statistics show that 44% of girls and 25% of women from migrant families are active in sports clubs, compared to 63% and 31% without a migrant background, respectively. These figures make it clear that there is still a lot of potential to increase participation and strengthen social structures.
The successful implementation of these integrative approaches shows how important sport is as a unifying element in our society. It helps to break down prejudices and promote understanding between cultures. Events like the Integrative Sports Festival in Wunsiedel are therefore not only leisure activities, but also social supports that help create harmonious coexistence.
Anyone who would like to register for the festival has until July 9th to do so by phone at 09232/602 107 or by email at mgh@wunsiedel.de. Registration is recommended for organizational reasons in order to make planning the activities and catering easier.
The festival in Wunsiedel is not only an opportunity for an active family day, but also represents the MSG clubs in Bavaria and their efforts to promote integration through sport.
